Isaiah 38:1-3 (NKJV) 1 In those days Hezekiah was sick and near death. And Isaiah the prophet, the son of Amoz, went to him and said to him, “Thus says the Lord: ‘Set your house in order, for you shall die and not live.’” 2 Then Hezekiah turned his face toward the wall, and prayed to the Lord, 3 and said, “Remember now, O Lord, I pray, how I have walked before You in truth and with a loyal heart, and have done what is good in Your sight.” And Hezekiah wept bitterly.

Set Your House In Order Isaiah 38:1-3

Set Your House In Order No one likes bad news, especially bad news that concerns oneself Our lesson this morning centers on a man who received some very bad news The kind that brought him to his knees

Set Your House In Order Hezekiah was very sick and near death (Is. 38) Isaiah came to him on behalf of God and said, “Set your house in order” Hezekiah prayed and God answered that prayer to extend his life He wrote a little note…

Set Your House In Order He was very upset about his state of sickness (vs. 10-14) When he learns of his life extension, look what he promises (vs. 15-20) Life is short (Js. 4:14) Are we doing what we need to do now?

Set Your House In Order Have we put anything off? What would we do if we became terminally ill? Would you have any regrets? We need to be sure that our house is in order!

Set Your House In Order 1. Our Spiritual House Is your spiritual house in order? That means we have to begin with our own spiritual lives first If Christ came back this hour, would you feel good about where you stood? Jesus spoke often about preparedness

Set Your House In Order 1. Our Spiritual House Specifically in Matthew 24:45-51 as well as in Matthew 25:1-13 The idea is to always be prepared to meet the Lord Peter expounded on this in II Peter 3 speaking of the surety of God’s promise

Set Your House In Order 1. Our Spiritual House This would include our families as well as ourselves We have a responsibility towards our spouses This is true whether they are Christians or not (I Cor. 7:10-16 & I Pet. 3:1-7)

Set Your House In Order 1. Our Spiritual House We have that same responsibility towards our children as well Ephesians 6:4 Titus 2:1-8 Can we say that our spiritual house is in order?

Set Your House In Order 2. Our Physical House What about your physical house? We have been very blessed by God (Js. 1:17) We are called to be faithful stewards of the things God has entrusted us with (I Cor. 4:2)

Set Your House In Order 2. Our Physical House If today was your last day, would things be left in order, or would they be a mess? If you are leaving others behind, what physical and financial state would they be left in?

A Second Chance As we know, Hezekiah was given a second chance at life We also know that he allowed pride to get in the way (Is. 39) If you had a second chance, would you do anything differently?

A Second Chance Today is your second chance That second chance may not last 15 years, but you do have right now Don’t wait until it’s too late to get your house in order! God has given you today!
