SALVATION RESURRECTION CRUCIFIXION LIFE DEATH
For surely you know that when we were baptized into union with Christ Jesus, we were baptized into union with his death. By our baptism, then, we were buried with him and shared his death, in order that, just as Christ was raised from death by the glorious power of the Father, so also we might live a new life. For since we have become one with him in dying as he did, in the same way we shall be one with him by being raised to life as he was. And we know that our old being has been put to death with Christ on his cross, in order that the power of the sinful self might be destroyed, so that we should no longer be the slaves of sin. Rom 6:3-6

THE PROMISE OF THE HOLY SPIRIT

Or would you give him a scorpion when he asks for an egg?
LUKE’S NARRATIVES Would any of you who are fathers give your son a snake when he asks for fish? Or would you give him a scorpion when he asks for an egg? As bad as you are, you know how to give good things to your children. How much more, then, will the Father in heaven give the Holy Spirit to those who ask him!“ Luke 11:11-13 And I myself will send upon you what my Father has promised. But you must wait in the city until the power from above comes down upon you." Luke 24:49

For forty days after his death he appeared to them many times in ways that proved beyond doubt that he was alive. They saw him, and he talked with them about the Kingdom of God. And when they came together, he gave them this order: "Do not leave Jerusalem, but wait for the gift I told you about, the gift my Father promised. John baptized with water, but in a few days you will be baptized with the Holy Spirit.“ …. Jesus said to them, "The times and occasions are set by my Father's own authority, and it is not for you to know when they will be. But when the Holy Spirit comes upon you, you will be filled with power, and you will be witnesses for me in Jerusalem, in all of Judea and Samaria, and to the ends of the earth." After saying this, he was taken up to heaven as they watched him, and a cloud hid him from their sight. Acts 1:3-5; 7-9 These people are not drunk, as you suppose; it is only nine o'clock in the morning. Instead, this is what the prophet Joel spoke about: 'This is what I will do in the last days, God says: I will pour out my Spirit on everyone. Your sons and daughters will proclaim my message; your young men will see visions, and your old men will have dreams. Acts 2:15-17

JOHN’S NARRATIVES I will ask the Father, and he will give you another Helper, who will stay with you forever. He is the Spirit, who reveals the truth about God. The world cannot receive him, because it cannot see him or know him. But you know him, because he remains with you and is in you. … "I have told you this while I am still with you. The Helper, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in my name, will teach you everything and make you remember all that I have told you. … But I am telling you the truth: it is better for you that I go away, because if I do not go, the Helper will not come to you. But if I do go away, then I will send him to you. And when he comes, he will prove to the people of the world that they are wrong about sin and about what is right and about God's judgment. Jn 14:16-17; 25-26; 16:7-8

THE GIVING OF THE HOLY SPIRIT

JOHN It was late that Sunday evening, and the disciples were gathered together behind locked doors, because they were afraid of the Jewish authorities. Then Jesus came and stood among them. "Peace be with you," he said. After saying this, he showed them his hands and his side. The disciples were filled with joy at seeing the Lord. Jesus said to them again, "Peace be with you. As the Father sent me, so I send you.“ Then he breathed on them and said, "Receive the Holy Spirit. If you forgive people's sins, they are forgiven; if you do not forgive them, they are not forgiven." Jn 20:19-23

ROMANS This hope does not disappoint us, for God has poured out his love into our hearts by means of the Holy Spirit, who is God's gift to us Rom 5:5 … If the Spirit of God, who raised Jesus from death, lives in you, then he who raised Christ from death will also give life to your mortal bodies by the presence of his Spirit in you. Rom 8:11

1 CORINTHIANS We have not received this world's spirit; instead, we have received the Spirit sent by God, so that we may know all that God has given us. 1Cor 2:12 … So then, we do not speak in words taught by human wisdom, but in words taught by the Spirit, as we explain spiritual truths to those who have the Spirit. 1 Cor 2:13 … Surely you know that you are God's temple and that God's Spirit lives in you! 1 Cor 2:16 … The Spirit's presence is shown in some way in each person for the good of all. 1 Cor 12:7

2 CORINTHIANS It is God himself who makes us, together with you, sure of our life in union with Christ; it is God himself who has set us apart, 2 Cor 1: who has placed his mark of ownership upon us, and who has given us the Holy Spirit in our hearts as the guarantee of all that he has in store for us. 2 Cor 1:22 … God is the one who has prepared us for this change, and he gave us his Spirit as the guarantee of all that he has in store for us. 2 Cor 5:5

GALATIANS Tell me this one thing: did you receive God's Spirit by doing what the Law requires or by hearing the gospel and believing it? Gal 3:2… Does God give you the Spirit and work miracles among you because you do what the Law requires or because you hear the gospel and believe it? Gal 3:5… Christ did this in order that the blessing which God promised to Abraham might be given to the Gentiles by means of Christ Jesus, so that through faith we might receive the Spirit promised by God…. Gal 4:6 To show that you are his children, God sent the Spirit of his Son into our hearts, the Spirit who cries out, "Father, my Father.“Gal 4:6 … As for us, our hope is that God will put us right with him; and this is what we wait for by the power of God's Spirit working through our faith. Gal 5:5

EPHESIANS And you also became God's people when you heard the true message, the Good News that brought you salvation. You believed in Christ, and God put his stamp of ownership on you by giving you the Holy Spirit he had promised. Eph 1:13 … The Spirit is the guarantee that we shall receive what God has promised his people, and this assures us that God will give complete freedom to those who are his. Let us praise his glory! Eph 1:14
