2 Project Overview Reduce turning radius to 7 feet from 14 feet Use 4-wheel steering system Considerations: –Driver performance and comfort –Must not interfere with other components –Proper stability of car during competition –Rugged design to endure off-road course –Budget less than $500

3 Sponsor Meetings Met with Dr. Hollis for assistance in calculating forces exerted on steering components Advised team to use gearing to reduce rear rack travel rather than adjusting the geometry to achieve the desired rear wheel angles

4 Recent Achievements Completed force analysis on front steering system –Highest stress at 30 degrees –Deceleration from 30 mph to 0 mph in 0.7 seconds –Factor of safety of 2 –Greatest stress on ½ inch tie rod end is approximately 1000 MPA
