Transformer positions for BISMV and BSW M. Hourican 2 March 2015

BSW 4 transformers (‘small’) 12 power cables Water manifold for 16 magnets Control box BISMV 3 transformers Water manifold for 3 magnets Control box

BISMV – Downstream (Beams 2 & 4) 3 transformers, 0.8 m3, and 1 Tonnes each 3 striplines equipped with Pearson / DCCT EPC prefer not to stack transformers in case of a failure and the subsequent exchange procedure (…ALARA) Crane available for installation

Upstream magnet Ring 1 Main magnet feedthrough here Proposed transformer position for upstream magnet BTSMV10 in close proximity to the BISMV Remember The pumping group shall be transferred to the main BT10 vacuum tank for 2 GeV operation BI equipment transferred to here Primary Pumping group new location here

BSW - Objectives Place transformers in a place where they will not cause obstruction Optimise the positions for the lengths of the strip lines Ensure transformers have sufficient clearance for installation of DCCT and for maintenance / failure intervention Remove obsolete cabling if possible-Transformers can be shimmed off the floor level to allow useful cables to remain The area under the false floor is approx. 0.67m deep and can house the transformers Protection covers can be fitted to prevent access by unauthorised personnel Last but not least, if one transformer fails, it can be easily and rapidly replaced (Stacking does not permit this) Remember – No crane available !

Viewed from inside booster ring Viewed from outside booster ring 4 transformers to place Size approx. 600x600x600 12 power cables for BSW2,3 &4 go to surface building Water distribution manifolds, flowmeters, gauges etc Control (SMB) interface box Each transformer shall be equipped with 2x DCCT’s (Dimensions approx. 470x470x 30mm) Protective covers to be easily accessed DCCT

Conclusion s BISMV No interference with piping Raised off floor by 100mm Crane access ok Minimum distance from magnet feedthroughs Space for DCCT guaranteed BSW No interference with piping Raised off floor by 100mm Crane access no ok – Forklift can be used to do the installation Space available for DCCT’s No restriction on access around the injection region Lengths of striplines can be optimised

Booster Transfer Lines
