3 What’s the difference between Medline and PubMed? MEDLINEPUBMED Produced by NLM (National Library of Medicine) Produced by NCBI (National Center for Biotechnology Information) Over 13 million references to the published journal literature Over 19 million references to the published journal literature (includes all of MEDLINE) Over 5,000 journal titles Includes all or part of HealthSTAR, AIDSLINE, CANCERLIT, SPACELINE, BIOETHICSLINE, and HISTLINE 1966 to present1950 (OLDMEDLINE) to present Updated daily Contains unprocessed records from publishers, including pre-prints (in- process)

6 Tips & Tricks Use [ti] to find a word or phrase in the article title Use [tiab] to find a word or phrase in the title or abstract Use “quotation marks” to find an exact phrase Use an * to find variations of a word (ex: evaluat* finds evaluate, evaluated, evaluation, evaluating, etc)

7 Exercise I Look for randomized control trials reporting on the use of inhalers by teenagers with exercise-induced asthma What is the MeSH term for inhalers?

8 Exercise II Find articles on the prognosis of heart murmurs in newborns Hint: use Clinical Queries

9 Exercise III Look for clinical trials or randomized controlled trials, published within the last 5 years in the core clinical journals, that focus on the use of beta blockers to treat coronary heart disease What is the MeSH Term for beta blockers?
