1 Cricket Origin: Cricket originated in England. The game of baseball and softball are the 2 sports we play in the USA that are similar. The field is elliptical (oval) in nature not a diamond. Key Terms: Bowler = Pitcher Wicket Keeper = Catcher Popping Crease =Home Plate Over 6 Pitches = Striker and non - striker =Batter /on deck batter

2 THE GAME A coin toss is used to determine who bats first. The game is played in innings like baseball/softball. There are 11 players for each team. Everyone on the teams bats before the they change to fielding. 2 batsmen for each team one is the striker the other is known as the non-striker. The Bowler/Pitcher can only throw 6 pitches. The ball is in play the minute the bowler begins the bowling motion.

3 Scoring The batter must carry the bat with them as the run to the other popping crease. They must extend the bat to touch the popping crease. One run is scored each time the popping crease is touched successfully. You may score more than one run per bat. The runner does not have to run if they feel it is unsafe.

4 Ways to Get Out Bowled Out: If the ball hits the wicket and knocks off a bail. –I the ball is caught in the air off the hit –If the runner does not safely reach the popping crease before the bail is knocked off the stumps
