1 Cor 3:5-7 What, after all, is Apollos? And what is Paul? Only servants, through whom you came to believe—as the Lord has assigned to each his task. I planted the seed, Apollos watered it, but God has been making it grow. So neither the one who plants nor the one who waters is anything, but only God, who makes things grow. 4:1 This, then, is how you ought to regard us: as servants of Christ and as those entrusted with the mysteries God has revealed.

Servants Are Not Puffed Up With Pride 1 Cor 4:6 Now, brothers and sisters, I have applied these things to myself and Apollos for your benefit, so that… you will not be puffed up in being a follower of one of us over against the other. Rom 12:3 For by the grace given me I say to every one of you: Do not think of yourself more highly than you ought, but rather think of yourself with sober judgment, in accordance with the faith God has distributed to each of you.

Servants Are Not Puffed Up With Pride Unrepentant’s pride - Prov 6:16-17; 8:13 Prov 6:16-17 These six things the Lord hates, Yes, seven are an abomination to Him: A proud look, A lying tongue, Hands that shed innocent blood… Prov 8:13 I hate pride and arrogance James 4:6; 1 Peter 5:5 “God opposes the proud but shows favor to the humble.”

Servants Are Not Puffed Up With Pride Unrepentant’s pride - Prov 6:16-17; 8:13 Believer’s pride Rom 12:3 Do not think of yourself more highly than you ought, but rather think of yourself with sober judgment Luke 18:9-14 To some who were confident of their own righteousness and looked down on everyone else, Jesus told this parable… “I tell you that this man, rather than the other, went home justified before God. For all those who exalt themselves will be humbled, and those who humble themselves will be exalted.”

Servants Are Not Puffed Up With Pride Unrepentant’s pride - Prov 6:16-17; 8:13 Believer’s pride - Rom 12:3; Titus 3:5; Luke 18:9-14 Doctrinal/denominational pride 1 Cor 3:3-7 For since there is jealousy and quarreling among you, are you not worldly? Are you not acting like mere humans? For when one says, “I follow Paul,” and another, “I follow Apollos,” are you not mere human beings? 1 Cor 4:6 Then you will not be puffed up in being a follower of one of us over against the other.

Servants Are Not Puffed Up With Pride - Unrepentant’s pride - Prov 6:16-17; 8:13 - Believer’s pride - Rom 12:3; Titus 3:5; Luke 18:9-14 - Doctrinal/denominational pride - 1 Cor 3:3-7, 4:6 Servants Are Not Deflated With False Humility - “I’m not good enough” 1 Cor 1:26-27; Rom 12:4-8; 2 Cor 4:7, 11:29; 12:9-10 2 Cor 11:29 Who is weak, and I do not feel weak? Who is led into sin, and I do not inwardly burn? 2 Cor 12:9 But he said to me, “My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness.” Therefore I will boast all the more gladly about my weaknesses, so that Christ’s power may rest on me.

Servants Are Not Puffed Up (With Pride) - Unrepentant’s pride - Prov 8:13 - Believer’s pride - Rom 12:3; Titus 3:5; Luke 18:9-14 - Doctrinal/denominational pride - 1 Cor 3:3-7, 4:6 Servants Are Not Deflated (With False Humility) - “I’m not good enough” 1 Cor 1:26-27; Rom 12:4-8; 2 Cor 4:7, 12:9-10 Servants Are Properly Inflated 2 Cor 4:7; Rom 12:3; Gal 6:4 Rom 12:3 …think of yourself with sober judgment 2 Cor 4:7 …we have this treasure in jars of clay to show that this all-surpassing power is from God and not from us.
