1 Assessment – Processes and Practicalities

2 Requirements for successful completion 1. All complusory “Os”, “Ps” and “FDs” to be filled in 2. One FD for sections B1- 5 (including an earmould impression) to be completed by a university assessor 3. The competency signatures page to be complete 4. Four individual projects to be successfully completed 5. Satisfactory PDP 6. Satisfactory end of placement reports for both 6 month blocks

3 Assessment 1 Areas B1-5 and A10 Form for each section – filled in by both university assessor and local supervisor – agree Make sure you and local supervisor agree how the day will be organised Have a brief chat with student at the beginning of the day to explain how the day will be organised and to calm any nerves

4 Assessment 1 Before each patient, ask the student to explain what they know about the patient and what their plan is for the session At the end of each patient, ask the student a few questions. Explore their ability to link theory with practice. This would normally be done after a brief chat with the local supervisor

5 Assessment 1 Give student helpful verbal feedback Back this up in comments section of IRCP (best done on the day) Return forms to Cat either electronically or hard copy Flag any concerns with Jane

6 Assessment 2 As for assessment 1 Additionally – competency signatures – summary form Give yourself plenty of time for this visit

7 Assessment 2 Competency signatures – final statement from local supervisor that student is consistently competent in each area – both local supervisor and university assessor sign Important safety net for weak students who happen to do enough on assessment day

8 Assessment 2 Summary form – 5 sections – may want to do this in advance FDs for every subsection for B1-5 All “O” “P” and “FD” signed for compulsory sections of IRCP Competency signatures 2 final individual projects completed PDP satisfactory – you need to look at it but be guided by local supervisor

9 Assessment 2 Summary form Depending on timing of visit, the summary form may be incomplete. Need to formulate (and record) a plan with local supervisor to address outstanding areas before end of placement year Need to follow up to make sure actions have occurred Return forms to Jane immediately after visit with subsequent emails regarding progress with any actions

11 Practicalities Complete declaration Let Cat know any useful information – days of the week that availability is best, how far you are able to travel, whether you are willing to stay overnight Expenses Take all paperwork with you Liaise with local supervisor re start times

12 Quality Assurance Regular attendance at PBA training day (every 3 years) University Assessor to support on first assessment Buddy system End of first year de-brief Do we need anything else?
