4 Mission of the Heritage Language Academy The HLA’s goal is to provide students with a deeper understanding of the transferability Hypothesis: How improving academic vocabulary in the native language ( Spanish) can have a positive effect in accessing academic English and vise-versa.

5 Missions of the Heritage Language Academy To provide HLA parents with the computer skills/ tools that would increase parent communication with school and enhance greater student/parent communication through online educational tools.

6 Principal Candace Call has been a key supporter in the development of the Heritage Language Academy, along with District Superintendent Dr. Diane Frost and Assistant Superintendent of Curriculum and Instruction, Dr. Dot Harper.

7 Dubraska Stines (ESL teacher), Heather Carr (5th grade teacher )and Josie Roman (Instructional Assistant ) were the master minds behind all the success in the program. They had a Philosophy of “ Less is more” Where the emphasis was on in depth of understanding of carefully selected essential and transferable skills for both parents and students.

17 With the assistance of High School and 5th grade volunteers, preschool children were able to have quality phisical activity while parents and older siblings were in class

18 The HLA successfully concluded with a ‘comelona’ (pot luck) and a diploma presentation
