1 Task Analysis Exercise Project criteria Command term objectives Describe – give a detailed account of the PROBLEM and DESIGN NEED OR OPPORTUNITY (Page one) State – Give a specific name, value or other brief answer without explanation or calculation of the DESIGN BRIEF (Page two) List – Give a sequence of names or other brief answers for your DESIGN SPECIFICATION and Explain – Give a detailed account of causes, resasons or mechanisms to JUSTIFY your choices CONTENTS 1.Problem, Design Need or Opportunity 2.Design Brief 3.Task Analysis 4.Initial Design Specification 5.Research 6.Final Product Design Specification (PDS) Continue…. With Development and Evaluation sections DUE DATE: Draft – 30 th September, 2011 Final – 7 th October, 2011 Marking Criteria P – Planning R - Research D – Development E – Evaluation What tasks do I need to do and how will I do them?

2 Aspect 1Aspect 2 CreativityTechniquesSolution Complete / 2 Uses a range of innovative ideas to solve the problem, at least 6 varied design sketches showing details and descriptions Uses freehand sketching, isometric and perspective. Includes the use of computer modeling (CAD) and other creative methods of presentation Arrives at a good solution that is practical, functional, solves the design problem or need and is aesthetically pleasing Partial / 1 Only approaches a limited amount of innovative ideas to solve the problem. Ideas do not vary and lack creativity Presents ideas using a range of techniques but not to the extend as above. Satisfactory solution to the problem is reached, some aspects are still unresolved and need modification or improvement Not at all / 0 Idea generation is mundane or irrelevant. There is not a specific use or no development from what is already available Does not use various techniques to communicate design idea or the techniques used are inappropriate Does not arrive at a solution or the solution is not appropriate for the design need Not at all / 6 Comments: Development (D) Development Creativity o You have 5-6 original and creative ideas o You have used freehand sketching to show your ideas o Sketching and written information is completed to a high standard o You have annotated manufacturing methods and joining techniques suitable to your solution o You have explained how your design meets your design specification o You have explained strengths and weaknesses of your design o Your research has informed your design ideas Techniques o You have used freehand drawing techniques. o You have used isometric drawing techniques. o You have used exploded drawing techniques. o You have used perspective-drawing techniques. o You have used CAD drawing techniques. Solution o You have described your final design in detail. o You have used correct symbols in your working drawing. o You have included dimensions on your solution. o You have listed joints/construction techniques. o You have a parts list. o You have listed tolerances for your solution. o You have explained the finish of your solution. o You have listed the materials needed to make your solution. o You have a detailed plan of production. 3 Aspect 1Aspect 2 ConclusionProcedureRecommendations Complete / 2 Provides clear evidence and a well explained conclusion of the solution. Evaluations include reference to the design brief and final PDS. Includes comprehensive evaluation of procedures at every stage of the investigation project. Always considering the design brief and PDS. Makes realistic and beneficial recommendations for improvement to the product that are economically and ecologically viable. These modifications need consider the user and design brief. Partial / 1 Provides a reasonable conclusion and makes reference to the design brief and PDS. There are only limited evaluations throughout all of the procedures taken in the project. Still refers to design brief and PDS. Makes some useful recommendations for improvement or modification. Considers the user and design brief. Not at all / 0 Provides no valid conclusion, no reference to design brief of PDS. Arguments are weak and not supported. Includes no evaluation throughout the project and only used teacher- directed conclusions. Makes no suitable recommendations for improvement or modification. Not at all / 6 Comments: Evaluation (E) Evaluation Conclusion o You have tested your final design or product against your PDS (product design specification). o Your tests are both subjective and objective. o You have explained the strengths and weaknesses of your final design or product using qualitative and quantitative techniques/tests o You have reached a valid conclusion, explaining how your final design/product meets your design brief. o You have referenced any use of research that aided your analysis in a bibliography Procedure o You have used evidence from testing your final design/product to evaluate your outcome against your PDS. o You have evaluated the effectiveness of the strategies you have used at each stage of your project or investigation. o You have evaluated the resources available and that you have used. o You have evaluated your use of time. o You have explained how significant weaknesses & limitations have been in your project or investigation. Recommendations o You have explained how you could improve the procedure; the improvements you have suggested are linked to your evaluation of the procedure. o The modifications to the process you have proposed are realistic and clearly described in detail. o You have suggested realistic improvements you could make to your final design or product, which are linked to your evaluation. o You have shown the suggested improvements using drawings and annotation. o The modifications you have suggested show how the final design / product could be adapted to scale up the production method. o You have produced sketches to show how your final design/product could be extended to a ‘design family’. o You have modified your design specification based on the weaknesses you have identified in your final design or product.
