2 1 NCSP Workshop for Pacific Island Countries on the Preparation of Second National Communications, 16-19 July 2007, Apia, Samoa National Communications Support Programme (NCSP) Some Key Points A GEF-funded programme, jointly managed by UNDP and UNEP A six-year timeline; initiated in April 2005 (two years to be formally completed) Intended to provide technical support to Non-Annex I Parties to the UNFCCC for the preparation of NCs With the ultimate goal of assisting countries to improve the technical vigor and policy relevance of the NCs 1

3 2 NCSP Workshop for Pacific Island Countries on the Preparation of Second National Communications, 16-19 July 2007, Apia, Samoa National Communications Support Programme (NCSP) SNC Quick Facts on Projects’ status 138 countries have received GEF funding Various stages of preparation, but majority expects to submit by end of 2010 and 2011 More than 50 countries expect to complete a draft NC report by end of 2010 Expected completions are likely to shift as countries make progress in NC preparation The NCSP has just started supporting countries on their TNCs 2
