1 Unit 4a Brand power Objectives: To enable Ss to talk about brands and marketing To practices reading for specific information To practice listening for gist and specific information Materials needed: Cassette – Pass Cambridge Intermediate

2 Unit Overview Selling Points Speaking Ss Say what brand they would buy for certain products and why. Listening Ss listen to five short pieces and match reasons for buying products with the speakers (Listening Test Part Two Section One). Brand stretching Reading 1 Ss read an article and list ways in which supermarkets are stretching their brands. Ss then answer questions

3 Speaking Ss discuss whether they would buy the products mentioned in the article. Sainsbury’s Bank Reading 2 Ss read extracts from Sainsbury’s advertising leaflets and match them, with financial products. Speaking Ss discuss the advantages and disadvantages of buying several services from one provider. Listening 2 Ss listen to the Marketing Director of Sainsbury’s bank in an interview about how Sainsbury’s Bank markets its financial services. Ss answer questions

4 Listening 3 Ss then listen again. T stops the cassette and Ss predict the next phrase from a list of options. Speaking Ss give a brief oral summary of the information in the interview.

5 Unit 4b Public relations Objectives: To enable Ss to talk about PR To practice reading for specific information To practice listening for specific information To practice writing a formal letter of invitation To enable Ss to describe their duties and responsibilities. Materials needed: Cassette – Pass Cambridge Intermediate

6 Unit overview What is public relations ? Listening 1 Ss sort duties into the responsibilities of the PR and marketing Department. Ss then listen to the PR Manager at Skoda describe her responsibilities. Vocabulary Ss match verbs with phrases to list the PR Department’s duties and responsibilities. Language focus Ss focus on language for describing duties and responsibilities.

7 Speaking Ss exchange information about their own duties and responsibilities. The benefits of good PR Listening 2 Ss discuss how skoda could have changed its image so dramatically. Ss then listen to the Skoda PR Manager again and compare their answers. Ss listen again and answer multiple-choice comprehension questions (Listening Test Part Three). Speaking Ss discuss how they and the public see their own companies.

8 Organizing a PR event Reading Ss complete a schedule for organizing a press launch. Speaking Ss organize a press launch for a product of their choice. Writing Ss write a formal letter of invitation to the product launch (Writing Test Part Two).
