2 2 Civil Society Benefits Enables a Voice of Civil Society (where there is no congruent voice) Strengthen culture and identity (at a time when global homogenization is gaining momentum) Increases social cohesion Strengthens communities (at a time when community and volunteerism is waning) (Civil Society has the role of developing culture and includes community organisations, churches, ethnic organisations, women’s groups, environmental organisations, cultural organisations, schools / universities, sports clubs, etc.)

3 3 Government Benefits Strengthens Local Government “Community Outcomes” programme Strengthens democracy (at a time when democracy is being weakened globally) Increases public participation and voter turnout (at a time when community and public participation is on the wane) Create a more sustainable society within unstable global conditions

4 4 Business Benefits Create a more vibrant, resilient and sustainable national economy. Facilitate the development of a Voice of SME’s Strengthen our SME sector as the backbone of the NZ economy. Assist in developing a more positive relationship between business and the public. Assist the development of a coherent focus for business that is effective in both the local and global market.
