Breathe it in… Can you feel the pressure? Weather Tools Layered Up Leftovers $100 $300 $200 $400 $500 $

1:100 CATEGORY 1 - $100 This important gas makes up 78% of our atmosphere?

CATEGORY 1 - $200 Oxygen is essential for all living things and is required for many processes to occur on Earth. What percentage of Earth’s atmosphere is oxygen? 1:200

CATEGORY 1 - $300 1:300 1. is the condition of Earth’s atmosphere at a particular time and place. 2. is the envelope of gases that surrounds Earth.

CATEGORY 1 - $400 1:400 Explain why water vapor is not included as a percentage when talking about the gases that make up Earth’s atmosphere.

CATEGORY 1 - $500 Give three reasons as to why the atmosphere is important to Earth.

CATEGORY 2 - $100 00 is the weight of a column of air that reaches pushes down on a surface.

CATEGORY 2 - $200 2:200 List two properties of air…

CATEGORY 2 - $300 2:300 As altitude increases, air pressure.

CATEGORY 2 - $400 2:400 If I wanted to describe very dense air, would I be describing areas at high altitudes or areas at low altitudes?

CATEGORY 2 - $500 2:500 Complete the boxes below using a sentence. (two separate sentences) CAUSEEFFECT If massand volumethen density increasesstays the samea. stays the sameb.decreases

CATEGORY 3 - $100 3:100 What does this instrument measure?

CATEGORY 3 - $200 What is the major difference between these two barometers? (for an additional $300, can you give their names?) 3:200

CATEGORY 3 - $300 What are units of air pressure measured in? 3:300

CATEGORY 3 - $400 3:400 This instrument measures the relative humidity outside. What is the name of this weather tool?

CATEGORY 3 - $500 This is large scale anemometer and is kept outdoors. What do you think this weather tool measures?

CATEGORY 4 - $100 4:100 What are the four main layers of the atmosphere?

CATEGORY 4 - $200 4:200 The thermosphere is extremely hot, with temperatures reaching 1800 degrees Celsius. Why would we not feel those extreme temps in the thermosphere?

CATEGORY 4 - $300 4:300 We know very little about this layer, but we know it is where meteors burn up, causing meteor trails.

CATEGORY 4 - $400 4:400 How have scientists classified the four different layers of the atmosphere? Explain using each of the four layers.

CATEGORY 4 - $500 Describe two reasons why the ozone layer, found in the stratosphere, is important to life on Earth. 4:500

CATEGORY 5 - $100 5:100 True or False (change the underlined word to make it true) Earth’s weather occurs in the thermosphere.

CATEGORY 5 - $200 5:200 Which layer of the atmosphere reflects radio waves?

CATEGORY 5 - $300 In the troposphere, as altitude increases... a.Air pressure decreases b.Temperature decreases c.Air density decreases d.All of the above

CATEGORY 5 - $400 Infer why clouds at the top of the troposphere are made up of ice crystals rather than drops of water.

CATEGORY 5 - $500 The weight/force of air pressure is VERY STRONG. This pressure is equal to the weight of an elephant on each and every object. Why are we not crushed, as well as every other object on Earth.

CATEGORY 1 - $100 Nitrogen $ 1:100

CATEGORY 1 - $200 21% $ 1:200

CATEGORY 1 - $300 1.Weather 2.Atmosphere $ 1:300

CATEGORY 1 - $400 The amount of water vapor in the air changes from time to time and from place to place. $ 1:400

CATEGORY 1 - $500 -protects Earth from meteors -provides water in the form of a liquid -provides warmth -provides essential gases for life to exist $

CATEGORY 2 - $100 Air pressure $ 2:100

CATEGORY 2 - $200 -has mass -has pressure -has density -can move (it’s a fluid) $ 2:200

CATEGORY 2 - $300 decreases $ 2:300

CATEGORY 2 - $400 Low altitudes $ 2:400

CATEGORY 2 - $500 If mass increases, at a given volume, then the density will increase. If the mass is constant and the volume increases, then density will decrease. $ 2:500

CATEGORY 3 - $100 Wind direction $ 3:100

CATEGORY 3 - $200 One uses a liquid (mercury barometer) A: Mercury Barometer B: Aneroid Barometer $ 3:200

CATEGORY 3 - $300 Millibars or inches of mercury $ 3:300

CATEGORY 3 - $400 Sling psychrometer $ 3:400

CATEGORY 3 - $500 Wind speed $ 3:500

CATEGORY 4 - $100 Troposphere, stratosphere, mesosphere, and thermosphere $ 4:100

CATEGORY 4 - $200 Air is much less dense, where air molecules are spread much further apart from one another. $ 4:200

CATEGORY 4 - $300 Mesosphere $ 4:300

CATEGORY 4 - $400 Temperature Troposphere: decreases in temp Stratosphere: increases in temp Mesosphere: decreases in temp Thermosphere: increases in temp $ 4:400

CATEGORY 4 - $500 Provides warmth (absorbed energy from the sun) And Protects from ultraviolet radiation $ 4:500

CATEGORY 5 - $100 False; troposphere $ 5:100

CATEGORY 5 - $200 Ionosphere $ 5:200

CATEGORY 5 - $300 D; ALL of the above $ 5:300

CATEGORY 5 - $400 Temperature decreases with altitude in the troposphere. The temperature is below freezing in the upper part of the troposphere. $ 5:400

CATEGORY 5 - $500 Air pressure comes in ALL directions, balancing the force. $ 5:500

JEOPARDY! Slide Show Setup The font for the question & answer slides is “Enchanted;” a copy of this font in located in the “REAL Jeopardy Template” folder or included in the “jeopardy_pc.zip” file. (This font will need to be installed in the C:/WINDOWS/FONTS folder of the computer running the show.) In order to keep all of the sounds and fonts together, copy the entire “REAL Jeopardy Template” folder or “jeopardy_pc.zip” file. To change the categories: –1. Go to the “Edit”menu and choose “Replace…” –2. In the Find box, type CATEGORY X (X being 1 through 5) (all caps). –3. In the Replace box, type the category in all caps (for example, PRESIDENTS). –4. Click Replace All… To change the dollar values (for example to create Double Jeopardy): –1. Go to the “Edit” menu and choose “Replace…” –2. In the Find box, type $X (the dollar value you want to change). –3. In the Replace box, type the new dollar value (with $). –4. Click Replace All...

JEOPARDY! Slide Show Setup continued To set up the Daily Double: –1. Choose which dollar value(s) to set as Daily Double (normally, Jeopardy has one Daily Double, and Double Jeopardy has two). –2. Go to the Game Board slide (Slide 8), right click once on the dollar value for the appropriate question, choose Hyperlink, and choose Edit Hyperlink. –3. In the Edit Hyperlink window, go to “Named location in file” and click “Browse…” –4. In the Hyperlink to Slide window, scroll down to the appropriate slide; Slides 64 and 65 are regular Daily Doubles, Slide 66 is an Audio Daily Double, Slide 67 is a Video Daily Double. Click “OK.” –5. Go to the Daily Double slide just linked to, and right click once on the answer arrow at the bottom right, choose Hyperlink, and choose Edit Hyperlink. –6. In the Action Settings window, make sure the Hyperlink button (to the left of “Hyperlink”) is selected, and in the select box underneath choose “Slide…” –7. In the Hyperlink to Slide window, scroll down to the appropriate question slide (the original slide number of the question). NOTE: Using the Audio and Video Daily Doubles requires adding audio or video/picture clips to the question slides. If you are not familiar with doing this in PowerPoint, do not use those Daily Doubles.

Running the JEOPARDY! Slide Show On the game board with the categories on top (Slide 8), click on the desired dollar value. (The first game board is used only to blink in the dollar values like the show.) The question slide will pop up; the slides are timed with an eight-second timer. At the end of the timer, an alarm will chime. ICONS: –? Go to the answer screen. –House Go back to the game board. –Right Arrow (on Daily Doubles) Go to the question screen. –Right Arrow w/ Bar (on Game Board) Go to the Final Jeopardy category. –Turned-up Arrow Reload question screen after incorrect guess. –$ Go to the Scoreboard slide. –Left Arrow (on Scoreboard) Go to the previous slide.
