2 Increasing economic growth
SOS Growth Sustainable development Sustainable development SOS Growth Growth Sustainable development SOS I want to reform and reorganise Europe’s energy policy in a new European Energy Union. Jean Claude Juncker 2

3 5 pillars of the Energy Union
Safe, sustainable, competitive and inexpensive energy for every citizen 1 2 3 4 5

5 LNG Terminal in Klaipeda
LNG is the safety valve LNG Terminal in Klaipeda pipeline Klaipeda – Kursenai 4/9/2015: Baltic States+ Commission + promoters agreement on the financial structure gas interconnector Poland – Lithuania (GIPL). Both pipelines received in 2014 and 2015 significant grants under the EU's Connecting Europe Facility programme ('CEF'). Gazprom is reported to reduce gas prices in 2014 and 2015 by 16-22%. New long term gas contract is being negotiated now with Gazprom.

6 2 Internal energy market
Energy should flow freely across the EU – without any technical or regulatory barriers 2 connecting markets through interconnections implementing and upgrading the internal market's software enhancing regional cooperation empowering consumers. 6

7 Member States below 10% interconnection
EE 4% LT LV PL 2%

8 Baltic States electricity synchronisation
BRELL-ring Wish of Baltic states to synchronise with Continental European Network ♥ sustained efforts ♥ Commission continue to support the objective ♥ Said in "Declaration on Energy Security of Supply of the Baltic States". Synchronisation with Continental European Network Enhanced integration with the Nordic Countries Operation of the Baltic States as a self-standing region Studies by ENTSO-E, JRC Working group meeting 30 Oct 2015 (Brussels)

11 3 Energy efficiency FIRST
Moderation of demand increasing energy efficiency in particular in the building sector promoting an energy-efficient and decarbonized transport sector efficient products. 11

12 Concrete actions for energy efficiency
Review the Energy Efficiency Directive Review the Energy Perfromance Building Directive Review the Energy Labelling and Ecodesign Directives Strengthened financial instruments to support investments in energy efficiency 12

13 New condensing boilers, save up to €275/y compared to older models.
reduce EU consumer's energy bills by up to 20%. reduce energy imports 480 Mb/y

14 EU strategy for Heating and Cooling
Final use of energy in EU Electricity Transport H&C Lack of statistical data, need to improve their quality

20 5 Research & innovation Developing EU technological leadership in low carbon technologies 5 20

21 15 September 2015, Commission adopted the new Strategic Energy Technology (SET) Plan.
The upgraded SET Plan is the first R&I deliverable on which the 5th dimension of the Energy Union will be built. They are actions to accelerate the energy system's transformation, ensuring the EU's leadership in the development and deployment of low-carbon energy technologies. Highly performant REN technologies Reduce the cost of key technologies Smart homes Smartness of the energy system New materials for buildings EU industry less energy intensive Battery sector to drive e-mobility forward Sustainable transport solutions CCS & CCU: Safety of nuclear reactors
