In chemistry, a mixture is a substance made by combining two or more different materials in such a way that no chemical reaction occurs. Some examples of mixtures are fruit salad, ocean water and soil.

Manipulated Variable- Mixture of Substances Responding Variable- Temp of Substance Controlled Variable- Type of Container Controlled Variable- Lamp Wattage Controlled Variable- Time Heated and Cooled

How does mixing different substances of 50 ml. with water affect the rate at which the substances change in temperature when heated and cooled for 10 minutes?

As we heat and cool mixtures of water and other substances together then the mixture of water and sand will heat up the most because it s all rock and rock heats up faster then my other substances(soil, salt, sugar)

300 ml of water, 50 ml of salt, 50 ml of sugar, 50 ml of sand, 50 ml of soil, 1 seventy watt lamp, 1 stopwatch, 1 thermometer, 1 ruler, 1 container.

1.Setup (see diagram) 2.Turn on lamp. Record temperature of mixture every minute for 5 minutes. 3.Turn off lamp. Record temperature of mixture every minute for 5 minutes. 4.Repeat steps 1-3 for each mixture. 5.Repeat experiment for 2nd trial. 6.Safety- Do not touch hot lamp. Be careful with the mixtures so you don’t get them on your clothes or eyes.
