In order to apply for the PGWP, your student status must be valid. Therefore, you should answer “student”

26 If you are applying for your spouse, they are eligible to work in Canada on an open work permit while you study. You can select “work with an Open Work Permit”. They can choose to work or not with this status. If you are applying for your children and they will be attending school, you would likely select “study more than 6 months”.

This is the application you should get for the PGWP. Click on it and save it to your computer. When you are done, click on the “validate” button inside the file.

40 A letter of explanation is an optional letter you can type that explains your application to the visa officer. It is always recommended that you write one in order to explain what you are applying for and clarify things in your application.

If you have a spouse or dependents, your document checklist will include additional files and applications. Your fees may also be more than the base $255.
