Unit 5 Visual Communications To achieve this unit a learner must: 1 Take an experimental approach to image-making by selecting a range of methods, materials and media 2 Explore and compare ways in which visual language can be used to communicate ideas and meaning 3 Clearly communicate an intended meaning to a specified audience by using visual language 4 Show clear awareness of how media, materials and techniques are used in others’ work to convey ideas and meaning.

Unit 5 Visual Communications To achieve a Merit a student must: use a wide range of formal and informal approaches to image making and compare how different methods, materials and media can be used to communicate selected ideas and meaning carry out thorough analysis and evaluation of the fitness for purpose of your own and others’ use of visual language to communicate ideas and meaning to a specified audience.

Unit 5 Visual Communications To achieve a Distinction a student must: continuously use visual and critical analysis and others’ work as a source to create a range of work that recognises the potential and limitations of image-making and the power of visual language to communicate complex ideas and meaning to meet different audience needs.
