1  Observe  Ask Questions  Create a Hypothesis  Test your Hypothesis  Display Data and results  Explain your Results  Ask for Peer Review

2  Independent Variable (IV): The part of the experiment that you are changing in order to test your hypothesis.  Dependent Variable (DV): The part of the experiment that we are measuring (that is DEPENDENT on the other variable)  Controls: Anything in the experiment that we do not change. We keep it constant for the purpose of the experiment.

3  A hypothesis  “If (independent variable), then (dependent variable).”  Here is an example of a hypothesis:  If the temperature of sea water increases, then the amount of salt that dissolves in the water increases.

4  Independent Variable: Temperature of Water  Dependent Variable: Egg Cook Time  Control: 1Tbsp salt is added to the water at each temperature  Hypothesis: If the water temperature is higher then the eggs will cook faster.
