2 Example #1 Jack drove an average of 55 mph on his trip. He spent a total of 8.5 hours driving. How far did he travel? Jack drove a total of 467.5 miles.

3 Example #2 Jack’s car is suppose to get 35 mpg. He purchased 14 ¾ gallons of gas for his trip. If he traveled 467 ½ miles, did he get 35 mpg? Jack’s car only got about 32 miles per gallon.

4 Example #3 Jenny, Jack’s wife found a hotel for $185 for a two night stay and another hotel nearby for $275 for a three night stay. Which is the better buy? The three night stay is a better rate.

5 Example #4 Jack and his family is traveling in Canada for part of their trip. They spend money on souvenirs that cost $234.50 CAD. If the exchange rate is 1 USD = 1.21 CAD, how much did they spend in US currency? This is $193.80 in USD.
