Day 2 –Procedures

Do now 1.Turn your introduction in to the TA. 2.Get out a new sheet of paper for the procedures. IN YOUR GROUPS (QUIET TALKING)

Agenda 1.Submit Introduction 2.Due dates 3.Prepare materials 4.Write procedures 5.Exit Slip TEACHER (TALK WHEN CALLED ON)

Learning Target I will be able to design an experimental procedure with materials, identified variables, and repeatable steps that clearly identify when measurements should be recorded and how trials are conducted. TEACHER (TALK WHEN CALLED ON)

Due Date Reminders! Introduction due 5/21 Procedures due 5/22 MSP Book due 5/22 Variables & Procedures work 5/22 Results due 5/28 Conclusion due 5/30 Last day for late work 6/2 Remember, you get 0.5 points of extra credit for submitting typed copies of your work! TEACHER (TALK WHEN CALLED ON)

Preparation 1.Determine concentration 2.Label 4 petri dishes TEACHER (TALK WHEN CALLED ON)

Concentration You have been given back your substance sheet. I have written the amount you will be using on your sheet. IF you brought in your “at home” substance today, raise your hand and I will tell you how much to use. TEACHER (TALK WHEN CALLED ON)

Concentration CALCULATIONS! TEACHER (TALK WHEN CALLED ON)

Label 4 petri dishes 1.Use a piece of tape to make a label that will be put on the bottom of your petri dishes. 2.A Label includes: Group member names, period, the substance being used, concentration (0%, 1%, 10%, 100%), and date. 3.You will have 4 labels total, one for each concentration. TEACHER (TALK WHEN CALLED ON)

Put your materials into the box at the side of the room! TEACHER (TALK WHEN CALLED ON)

Procedures 1.Manipulated Variable 2.Responding Variable 3.Controlled Variable (at least two) 4.Materials list 5.Set up Diagram (drawn with labels or written) 6.Procedure State when you record measurements State how each trial is conducted. All steps are clear, in logical order, and can be repeated by others. TEACHER (TALK WHEN CALLED ON)

Get out a sheet of paper and write the following (leave enough space between each): PROCEDURES 1.Manipulated Variable: 2.Responding Variable: 3.Two Controlled Variable: 4.Materials List: 5.Set up diagram: 6.Procedures: TEACHER (TALK WHEN CALLED ON)

Read the procedures pages 2 &3 STILL ONLY HAVE ENOUGH TO SHARE, DO NOT MARK ON THESE! BY YOURSELF (SILENTLY)

Manipulated Variable What is the manipulated variable? TEACHER (TALK WHEN CALLED ON)

Manipulated Variable On your sheet of paper write: 1. Manipulated Variable: [The manipulated variable here] TEACHER (TALK WHEN CALLED ON)

Responding Variable What is the responding variable? TEACHER (TALK WHEN CALLED ON)

Responding Variable On your sheet of paper write: 2. Responding Variable: [Your responding variable here] TEACHER (TALK WHEN CALLED ON)

Controlled Variables What are two important controlled variables in this experiment? TEACHER (TALK WHEN CALLED ON)

Controlled Variables On your sheet of paper write: 3. Controlled Variables: [Your two controlled variables here] TEACHER (TALK WHEN CALLED ON)

Materials What materials do you need to conduct this experiment? IN PAIRS (TALK WITH YOUR GROUP MEMBER)

Materials On your sheet of paper write: 4. Materials: [Your materials here] HINT: I counted 8 materials needed. TEACHER (TALK WHEN CALLED ON)

Set up Diagram How will you show how the experiment is set up? A drawn diagram with labels or written into the procedures? IN PAIRS (TALK WITH YOUR GROUP MEMBER)

Set up diagram On your sheet of paper write or draw with labels: 5. Set up diagram: [Your diagram here] TEACHER (TALK WHEN CALLED ON)

Set up Diagram How will you show how the experiment is set up? A drawn diagram with labels or written into the procedures (if written, this will be your first step of your procedure)? IN PAIRS (TALK WITH YOUR GROUP MEMBER)

Set up diagram On your sheet of paper write or draw with labels: 5. Set up diagram: [Your diagram here] TEACHER (TALK WHEN CALLED ON)

Procedure 1.When should you take measurements and in what unit? 2.How do you perform each trial? 3.How should the steps be ordered so that someone else can repeat them? IN PAIRS (TALK WITH YOUR GROUP MEMBER)

Procedure On your sheet of paper write : 6. Procedure: [Your procedure here] Tells you when to measure How each trial is done. Clear enough for someone else to use. MUST BE IN YOUR OWN WORDS! TEACHER (TALK WHEN CALLED ON)

Work time Procedures 1.Manipulated Variable 2.Responding Variable 3.Controlled Variable (at least two) 4.Materials list 5.Set up Diagram (drawn with labels or written) 6.Procedure State when you record measurements State how each trial is conducted. All steps are clear, in logical order, and can be repeated by others. TEACHER (TALK WHEN CALLED ON)

Exit slip For your group, with all group members’ names written on it. 1.Give me your set up diagram (drawn with labels OR written). PROCEDURES ARE DUE TOMORROW! TEACHER (TALK WHEN CALLED ON)

LAST PERSON CALLED: (ONLY) CALL ON A FRIEND FOR HELP!
