2 Signs That Someone May Be Seriously Ill In unconscious or unusually confused. Has trouble breathing Has chest discomfort Has pressure or pain in the abdomen. In vomiting blood Has a seizure Weakness or numbness in body parts

3 CARING FOR SUDDEN ILLNESS Help the person rest comfortably. If a person vomits, lay them on their side. In case of fainting, lay on back and elevate legs 8-12 inches.

4 STROKE A “Brain Attack” where blood flow to the brain is cut off. Usually caused by a blockage in arteries. ALWAYS CALL 9-1-1 if you suspect a STROKE.

5 SIGNS OF STROKE FACEARM SPEECH TIME

6 FACE WEAKNESS IN ONE SIDE OF THE FACE. TO TEST, ASK PERSON TO SMILE.

7 ARM WEAKNESS OR NUMBNESS IN ONE ARM. TO TEST, RAISE BOTH ARMS.

8 SPEECH SLURRED SPEECH OR TROUBLE SPEAKING. TO TEST, ASK TO SAY A SIMPLE SENTENCE.

9 TIME TIME TO CALL 9-1-1! NOTE WHEN SYMPTOMS BEGAN. THIS IS IMPORTANT FOR EMS!

10 Heat Related Illnesses Heat Cramps Usually occur in legs or abdomen. Painful Spasms Heat Exhaustion More severe Symptoms include headache; nausea; dizziness; weakness; and exhaustion Heat Stroke Least common, most severe. Person becomes unconscious

11 Cold Related Illnesses Hypothermia Bodies ability to keep warm fails. Will die if not given care. Symptoms are shivering; numbness; glassy stare; indifference; unconscious

12 COLR RELATED INJURIES Frostbite Freezing of body parts exposed to cold air. Severity depends on air temperature, length of exposure and wind.

13 LYME DISEASE An illness that people get from the bite of an infected tick.

14 TICKS Not all ticks carry Lyme Disease They can attach to you without you even knowing! Adult ticks are as large as a grape seed.

15 SYMPTOMS OF LYME Small red area at first Bulls-eye rash will develop. Fever Headache EXTREME FATIGUE Weakness. Muscle Pain

16 HOW DO I REMOVE A TICK? Remove with TWEEZERS! DO NOT BURN. Apply ointment and treat area to prevent infection!
