1 The literacy initiative (The reading and writing boost)

2 The initiative aims to… …increase students' reading comprehension and writing ability by strengthening and developing the quality of teaching. The initiative is based on collaborative learning, where teachers learn from and with each other with the support of a supervisor. The aim is also to strengthen the collaborative learning and contribute to a change in in-service training and teaching culture in the participating schools. Teachers must meet scientifically substantiated methods and proven methods that can be used to develop pupils' literacy skills in all subjects taught.

3 Who is responsible for what? The school level (Head teachers, participating teachers and supervisors) Head techers: Decides on organizational matters, such as allocation of time and resources Teachers and supervisors: Work together in collaborative groups, using the material on the Literacy Portal, aiming to improve their teaching. The local level (The resonsible authorities in the municipality or the organiser of a free school) Decides on organizational mattersSubmits application to government grants The national level (The National Agency for Education in cooperation with different universites) Produces materials to be published on the Literacy Portal (www.lasochskrivportalen.se)www.lasochskrivportalen.se Distributes government grants
