Write an Equation in Slope-Intercept Form

43210 In addition to level 3.0 and beyond what was taught in class, the student may:  Make connection with other concepts in math.  Make connection with other content areas. The student will demonstrate and explain the connections between proportional relationships, lines, and linear equations and use functions to model relationships between quantities. The student will demonstrate and identify proportional relationships, lines, and linear equations and use functions to model quantities. With help from the teacher, the student has partial success with level 2 and 3 elements. Even with help, students have no success with level 2 and 3 content. Focus 7 - Learning Goal #1: The student will understand the connections between proportional relationships, lines, and linear equations and use functions to model relationships between quantities.

What is Slope-Intercept Form of an Equation? y = mx + b The equation includes the slope “ m ” and the y-intercept “ b ”. This format makes it easy to graph the equation.

Write the equation of a line whose slope is -2 and y-intercept is (0, 3). Start by writing y = mx + b. Substitute “-2” for m. Substitute “3” for b. The equation is y = -2x + 3.

Write the equations of the lines that include: 1. 1. Slope = 1 y-intercept = (0, -1) 2. 2. Slope = 1 / 3 y-intercept = (0, 9) 3. 3. m = 5 / 2 b = -6 1. 1. y = x – 1 2. 2. y = 1 / 3 x + 9 3. 3. y = 5 / 2 x - 6

Write the Equation of a Line from a Graph Remember to use y = mx + b. First find where the line crosses the y-axis, that is “b.” Next find two points and count the slope, that is “m.” Then substitute into the formula. y = 2x - 4 Right 2 Up 4 4 / 2 = 2

Write the Equation of a Line from a Graph Remember to use y = mx + b. First find where the line crosses the y-axis, that is “b.” Next find two points and count the slope, that is “m.” Then substitute into the formula. y = - 2 / 3 x + 2 Right 3 Down 2 -2 / 3
