WHAT IS IT???  Flickr is a image hosting and video hosting website where anyone can upload and tag photos, browse other people’s photos, add comments and annotations, and share images & videos.  Flickr was created by Ludicorp in 2004 and acquired by Yahoo! in 2005.  Since its launch in February 2004, Flickr embodies what is now known as Web 2.0 technology. The site provides the tools, but the value derives from the contributions of the user community—photos, comments, ratings, and organization.  Users can create photo sets and collections to manage content, and participate in topical groups to cultivate a sense of community.

Flickr & Learning…  Flickr offers an opportunity for students studying photography or other art-related subjects to receive feedback and engage with a community of experts and amateurs.  Students who are engaged with content demonstrate better learning outcomes, and the closeness of visual media facilitates that sense of connection to subject material.

7. Flickr in Business  Businesses and corporations have also found Flickr to be a useful resource. Although Flickr is intended primarily for personal use, several businesses have created accounts in an effort to reach out to their customers.  Examples of corporate/business use of Flickr include: -Marketing products and future concepts -Behind the scenes/personal look at a company -Press/media related items -Portfolio of work and projects -Suggestions/additional information for customers (e.g. recipes)
