3 What is UnionLine? UnionLine is your law firm UnionLine is a regulated law firm and is only one of a handful of law firms operating on a not for profit basis This means that all the profits UnionLine make are invested back into the Unions for their members to benefit We are the first trade union wholly owned law firm in the UK and will become one of the largest civil litigation law firms in the country We provide 4 core services to our members: –Legal advice help line –Employment advice and claims –Personal injury advice and claims –Wills We went live on the 29 May 2014 to provide legal services to a collective 827,000 members

4 Who owns UnionLine? We are wholly owned by the GMB and CWU We are held in trust by both Unions for the benefit of our respective members Who runs UnionLine? The overall governance board comprises senior personnel from GMB and CWU who set the overall strategy and direction of UnionLine in conjunction with the management team The day to day running of UnionLine is managed by a management team which comprises myself, Jon Bostock, Maria Ludkin (GMB), Allan Wylie (GMB) and Tony Rupa (CWU). The management team review the progress and performance of UnionLine weekly I am involved in the day to day running of UnionLine and am in constant touch with regions, legal officers and regional secretary's. The core functions of UnionLine are provided by UnionLine employees and GMB members

5 Core Services and functions 1.Employment law 2.Personal injury 3.Helpline - we provide initial advice to our members on a variety of legal topics (family, debt, injury, housing, employment, immigration, criminal, property etc). 4.We provide a free will service for simple wills If we are unable to provide bespoke advice or a service to a member we can also utilise the expertise of our panel firms to discuss the members needs further. This service will be provided directly to the member by the panel firm often on discounted legal fee rates. Such services could include probate, complex wills, conveyancing, criminal etc We are supported by a panel of specialist law firms who have been carefully chosen by each region and who act on our behalf for our members where appropriate so we can provide local coverage The member is always a UnionLine client when it comes to employment and personal injury claims Legal services for our members are centrally controlled by UnionLine

7 Key achievements National Statistics 57,000 matters created 14,000 PI claims assessed 29,000 helpline calls 9,000 will enquiries 6,000 employment claims assessed 9% of employment issues referred to a panel firm for tribunal work 110,000 calls taken – weekly average of 1703 (348 per day) Over 1600 settlement agreements drafted Over 30 new team members Twitter and Facebook accounts Modern Law awards 2015
