Simple Machines By Anna Maslowski and Sylwia Jablonska

What is a Simple Machine? A simple machine is what you can use to make work easier. There are 6 types of simple machines: lever, inclined plane, wheel and axle, pulley, screw and wedge. A simple machine is what you can use to make work easier. There are 6 types of simple machines: lever, inclined plane, wheel and axle, pulley, screw and wedge.

LEVERS This is a first class lever.

Levers A lever is a bar that is free to turn around a fixed point. There are 3 types of levers: a first class lever, a second class lever and a third class lever. A lever is a bar that is free to turn around a fixed point. There are 3 types of levers: a first class lever, a second class lever and a third class lever. For example a 1 st class lever is a crowbar, a 2 nd class lever is a wheelbarrow and a 3 rd class lever is a broom. For example a 1 st class lever is a crowbar, a 2 nd class lever is a wheelbarrow and a 3 rd class lever is a broom.

INCLINED PLANE Yay…GREEN!!!!!!!!!!

Inclined Plane An inclined plane is a slanted surface or ramp. It makes work easier by changing the angle at which you have to exert force to lift resistance. A screw in an inclined plane wrapped around a cylinder. An inclined plane is a slanted surface or ramp. It makes work easier by changing the angle at which you have to exert force to lift resistance. A screw in an inclined plane wrapped around a cylinder. IMA (ideal mechanical advantage) = length/height IMA (ideal mechanical advantage) = length/height

SCREW A screw is like a wedge with an inclined plane wrapped around it. It goes in to things easily with its point and is easy to sink in because of the threads.

Wedges and Screws A wedge is a kind of inclined plane. A wedge is most often made of 2 inclined planes,( or screws) back-to-back. A wedge is a kind of inclined plane. A wedge is most often made of 2 inclined planes,( or screws) back-to-back. A screw is an inclined plane wrapped around a cylinder. Bolts are examples of screws. A screw is an inclined plane wrapped around a cylinder. Bolts are examples of screws.

Pulley A pulley is a rope wrapped around a wheel. Pulleys can change direction of a force, size, or both. A pulley is a rope wrapped around a wheel. Pulleys can change direction of a force, size, or both. There are 3 types of pulleys: a fixed pulley, pulley system, and movable pulleys. There are 3 types of pulleys: a fixed pulley, pulley system, and movable pulleys.

WHEEL AND AXLE An example of a wheel and axle is a door knob.

Wheel and Axle A wheel and axle are 2 different sized wheels that turn together around the same point. An example of a pulley is a door handle. A wheel and axle are 2 different sized wheels that turn together around the same point. An example of a pulley is a door handle. A wheel and axle is like a lever that moves in a circle. A wheel and axle is like a lever that moves in a circle.
