Baker Middle School Positive Actions Win! School-Wide (PBIS) Positive Behavior Intervention and Supports Program 2013 – 2014 School Year

Positive Reinforcement PBIS is designed to focus on reinforcing positive behaviors. All teachers should give positive attention and verbal praise to students for positive behaviors. In order for SW-PBIS to be fully implemented, schools must have an easily recognizable, easy to use school wide system to provide immediate reinforcement to all students. Baker Middle School will use the “Positive Acts Win” or “PAW” ticket system to reinforce positive behaviors

Introducing The “Positive Acts Win” Ticket System Last year we intentionally advertised the phrase “Positive Acts Win” through the video announcements. Our 7 th and 8 th grade students are familiar with the term “Positive Acts Win”, but they do not know about the acronym “PAW” or the ticket system Teachers will need to spend time in the classroom introducing the “Positive Acts Win” / “PAW” ticket system as a follow up to the behavior matrix lessons

What can the students do with a “PAW” Ticket? “PAW” tickets can be used to purchase 4 different things. 1.“PAW” Tickets can be redeemed in the office for a snack. This reinforcement is good for the students that need immediate feedback. There are some students that will want to cash their tickets in immediately and this reinforcement is for them. The snacks will include: candy, chips, fruit snacks, etc.

What can the students do with a “PAW” Ticket? 2.“PAW” Tickets can be redeemed in the office for a “Blazing Performer” Buffalo Wild Wings Gift certificate. This reinforcement is also good for the students that need immediate feedback. This reinforcement also allows our students to be recognized in our community for their positive behaviors at school. Buffalo Wild Wings donated 1000 gift certificates for us to use with our PBIS system.

What can the students do with a “PAW” Ticket? 3.“PAW” Tickets can be redeemed in the office for a chance to win in our Monthly Lunch Raffles. This reinforcement is good for the students that would like to take a chance at a larger reinforcement prize. Students can buy as many raffle tickets as they would like with their “Paw” Tickets On the last Friday of every month there will be a drawing in the lunch room for 5 lucky winners to receive a price in each of the lunches. 15 students in total will receive prizes. Prizes will include: Ear bud headphones, iPod cases, iTunes gift cards, Baker Bob Shop gift cards, front of the lunch line passes, snacks and more!

What can the students do with a “PAW” Ticket? 4.“PAW” Tickets can be redeemed in the office for a chance to win a “Golden Ticket” to our End of the Semester Pizza Party/Activity/Movie Night! This reinforcement is good for the students that would like to take a chance at our largest reinforcement prize. Towards the end of each semester there will be a private drawing in the office for 50 lucky winners to receive a “Golden Ticket” that allows them to attend this amazing event! The gym will be open for games, a movie will be played in the cafeteria, and pizza will be served!

Bobcat of the Month This year Bobcat of the Month will be a part of our “Positive Acts Win” SW-PBIS reinforcement Program. At the end of each month, the top 5 school wide “PAW” Ticket winners will be identified as our Bobcats of the Month. Their pictures will be on display for the entire year as an individual month winner, similar to employee off the month displays. The Bobcats of the Month will also receive a golden ticket allowing them to attend the End of the Semester Pizza Party/Activity/Movie Night!

Lets Get Started! Print off several copies of the “PAW” tickets and start reinforcing our students for positive behaviors. Remember that this is a tool that you can use instead of focusing on the negative behaviors in your classroom by writing referrals. The goal of this program is to develop relationships, reinforce positive behavior, improve student behavior and reduce the amount of referrals we have to write.
