2 Georgia Studies Lesson Plans December 19, 2011 OPENING: Opening Questions: Who presides over the Georgia senate? Who presides over the Georgia house of representatives? EQ: What are the roles of the Executive, legislative, and Judicial branches of state government? GPS:SS8CG1- The student will describe the role of citizens under Georgia’s constitution. SS8CG2-The student will analyze the role of the legislative branch in Georgia state government SS8CG3- The student will analyze the role of the executive branch in Georgia state government SS8CG4-The student will analyze the role of the judicial branch in Georgia state-government. WORK SESSION: Continue: Role Play the State Government This is a Performance Task for your grade you much participate in 3 committees, sponsor a “Bill”, “PUSH” (Drive) the Bill through Congress. Review for Test on Chapter 15: Government of the Empire State( Sheet) CLOSING: Did this Activity help you to understand the process in Georgia State Government? Why or Why not? Give one important fact that you have learned from this activity on Georgia State Government. HOMEWORK: Complete the Chapter Test for Wednesday Complete you final draft of your proposal or bill.

4 Physical Science Lesson Plans December 20, 2011 OPENING: Prepare to go to the media center to work on the Performance Task EQ: Why are simple machines an important part of our lives? GPS:S8P3c. Demonstrate the effect of simple machines (level, inclined plane, pulley, wedge, screw, and wheel and axis) on work. S8P5.c Demonstrate the effect of simple machines on work. WORK SESSION: Simple machines-Performance Task The students will go to the Media center to complete a Performance Task (Technology) CLOSING: Test your knowledge on Simple machines- Ticket Out the Door Tell what you have learned in five or more sentences about simple machines. HOMEWORK: NONE

5 Georgia Studies Lesson Plans December 21, 2011 OPENING: Criminal Justice and the Juvenile (Video/Discussion) Ask students to discuss whether they think this is a good way to both punish and correct young offenders. EQ: How does the juvenile justice system differ from the adult justice system (jurisdictions, terminology, and steps in the criminal justice process)? GPS:SS8CG1- The student will describe the role of citizens under Georgia’s constitution. SS8CG2-The student will analyze the role of the legislative branch in Georgia state government SS8CG3- The student will analyze the role of the executive branch in Georgia state government SS8CG4-The student will analyze the role of the judicial branch in Georgia state-government. WORK SESSION: Young People and the Law: Steps in the juvenile criminal justice system. Do the crime, Do the Time: The Seven deadly Sins Act View the Video: The Sentencing of Bill Thomas and answer the 10 questions. CLOSING: Explain: What are your opinion of legislature connecting school attendance and Georgia driver’s licenses and permits. Do you think it is fair to link the two for students under the age of 17? Why or why not? HOMEWORK: NONE

6 Physical Science Lesson Plans December 22, 2011 OPENING: Vocabulary Activity on Simple machines (Activity Sheet) EQ: What are some real life situations showing function and purpose of each simple machine? GPS:S8P3c. Demonstrate the effect of simple machines (level, inclined plane, pulley, wedge, screw, and wheel and axis) on work. S8P5.c Demonstrate the effect of simple machines on work. WORK SESSION: Simple and Compound Machines, Real World Science: Simple machines- Video/ Discussion When Hardware Hal holds a "Simple and Compound Machines Sale," he demonstrates to his assistants the six simple machines: the lever, wedge, inclined plane, pulley, wheel and axle, and screw. The program shows how these machines make work easier by changing force, direction, or distance. Machines in action and computer graphics illustrate the principles of work, effort, force, distance, power, friction, and much more. (20:29) CLOSING: The Students review what they've learned about simple machines- Short Video and discussion HOMEWORK: NONE: HAVE A GREAT WINTER BREAK!!!!
