3. What are the 4 basic sentence types? Declarative – a statement Interrogative – a question Exclamatory – a statement with emotion Imperative - a command

4. Declarative: Today we will go to the store. Interrogative: Will we go to the store today? Exclamatory: Today we will go to the store! Imperative: Go to the store today.

6. Clause: a group of words containing a subject and a predicate, that does not necessarily constitute a sentence. Independent/main clause– it can stand on its own as a complete sentence. Dependent/subordinate clause– it can NOT stand on its own as a complete sentence. Examples to come…

7. Two independent clauses (complete sentences): I will go to the movie. I will complete my homework. I will go to the movie when I complete my homework. When I complete my homework, I will go to the movie. When you add a “subordinating conjunction” such as when, therefore, because, if, after, etc. in front of an independent clause, it becomes a subordinate clause. It can no longer stand on its own.
