What is a Virus? A virus is something that you get in any shape or form. You could receive an email that has an interesting title, but not know who is it from. If you then opened that email…there is a chance that you have just infected your computer with millions of virus’. This virus could then be passed to other computers by sending emails to your friends, and not knowing that you are doing it because the virus has taken over. There are many different virus’ but there are 3 main ones that may effect you in the future, and they are: Trojan Horse virus’- if you are researching something for homework and something pops up saying ‘CLICK HERE!! YOU HAVE JUST WON AN IPOD TOUCH!!’…do not click on it as this is a virus. They will not give you an ipod touch, and will cause a lot of damage to your computer. I love you virus’- You could open up your email account and it may say that you have an email with a title called ‘I love you’. As people may find this strange, they will open it up to see who the email is from. This will set trigger the virus’ and your computer will then be infected! DO NOT OPEN THESE EMAILS!! Melissa Virus’- You may get an email saying that you have won something (like a prize or something-just like the Trojan Horse Virus, but you get this virus through an email). If you open the email…you will NOT get a prize, but you will have a damaged computer, as it slowly starts to deteriorate as the virus gets hold of your computer.

How Virus’ get around. Virus’ get around by disguising themselves as pictures and strange web-links, some even as emails. It attracts you by flashing or even popping up when your reading something. It will do everything possible to try and make you click on it. Sometimes, it will kill your computer slowly…but other times, it will instantly wipe out all of your computer, the minute you click on it. How to stop Virus’ all together. You can download something on your computer called Anti-Virus software. You can download it off the internet or you can buy a disk in which you also have to download onto your computer. This stops any type of virus getting into your computer, or infecting all of your documents. I would recommend everyone that has a computer or laptop, to install this software onto your computer just in case you get a virus, as Virus’ are strong and powerful. Nothing but this protection can beat it.

There are many different types of hackers, such as a card hacker, an email hacker and many more. You can stop nasty people like hackers by shutting down your internet and your computer in general before you go to bed, as the best thing that hackers like are open internet with nobody on it. That way they can access your internet and all of your computer documents. These people are HORRIBLE! Stay well away and make sure your computer is shut down. That is all it takes to stop people hacking your computer.

You can install a software which protects your computer from anyone but yourself. You are more of less putting up a wall (they call it a fire wall) inside your computer to block anyone who tries to access it (get into your things inside your computer). Hackers are usually clever people that know exactly what time of the day you will not be on your computer. They usually hack you when you are not on your computer, otherwise you will know that something is happening and will be able to stop them. At your age, the one thing you can do to stop hackers is shut down your computer when you know you are done using it. You will learn greater detail as you get older.

A backup is something that you need to save all of your important documents in on just in case anything happens to your computer (eg virus’ and hackers). A backup can be a memory stick, an empty disc or a hard drive. Once you have saved all of your work onto your ‘backup’ you must put it in a place where nobody will expect it to be, and you must never loose this. You may think its silly, but if anything did happen to your computer, you would be so grateful of the day you decided to put all of your work and important files onto your ‘backup’.

I hope you have learnt a lot from my PowerPoint, and will increase your understanding in the future :)
