Processes (N to S) Deep water transport Congo river plume inputs Angola Dome OMZ – redox cycling Upwelling and productivity Margin-basin transport Agulhas eddy transport Dust inputs

Rationale Sample along 5 o E (A13 track): major water masses, deep basins – continue south to sample Cape Basin at southern end Shorter zonal transects (A7, A8 and into Benguela upwelling) orthogonal to sample major features and provide 3D framework Summer (Jan-May) sampling to capture maximum upwelling and Angola Dome feature

In Addition Sample fluxes through Romanche FZ: meridional transects to be done on major N-S sections or “AMT” type resupply legs Amazon to Congo transect: riverine, equatorial and oligotrophic regimes, dust inputs

To Discuss Station spacings Casts per station Sediment sampling (boomerang free-fall core top sampler) Who does what
