2 L EARNING OUTCOMES Identify and describe typical street foods from various regions in India. Buy and sell foods from a vendor selling food from a street stall. Ask and answer questions related to foods (ingredients, freshness, preparation, temperature). Make suggestions about which foods people might prefer based on age, gender, health. Compare type of foods and cost of foods offered at various stalls. Bargain for the best price.

3 R EVIEW LESSON Using slides of previously-learned food items, students identify the names of the items, the regions they belong to, and talk about their personal likes and dislikes.

4 L ESSON A GENDA 1. Using authentic photographs, some sign boards of a few North Indian food stalls/restaurants, and a video clip (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aFVgSORT1UU&featu re=player_detailpage), the teacher introduces and practices with students typical regional street foods. Students identify and describe the items, express preferences, and compare those foods with the street foods sold in the United States.http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aFVgSORT1UU&featu re=player_detailpage 2. Students examine and discuss menus from food stalls in India. They identify geographical regions and cultural variations evident in the selection of items sold in the food stalls. They then create original menus for food stalls including brief descriptions of the foods offered and prices.

Mujhe do glass shikanji chahiye. Mujhe ek cup chai chahiye. Kya aap ke paas sharbat hai. Ordering something to eat: Mujhe do plate bhel puri chahiye, ek plate chana, aur meethi chatni chahiye. Mujhe garam garam samose chahiye. Hum ko teekhi chaat chahiye aur chatni bhi. Paying for the food and drink: Bhaisahab kitne paise hue? Kya aap paise batayenge? Yeh sab kitne ka hai? 12 Task Students will decide in groups of four, which region they would like to represent to set up a food stall and what best practices will they use to sell their food.
