As a modern academic discipline, geography is concerned with the analysis of the physical and human characteristics of the Earth’s surface from a spatial perspective. Question: What does Human Geography sound like it is concerned with to you? What kinds of things do you expect to study in this course?

Wednesday, August 26, 2015 Vocab: Spatial Analysis- The study done by geographers to examine the distribution of different types of phenomena and ask why and how certain phenomena come to occur in certain places. Question: Perform some “spatial analysis” on the photo in the next slide. What “phenomena” do you observe? Do you have any guesses as to where in the world this is? Why do you think it was done?

The Red areas are where tourists have taken photos, the blue are where locals take photos and the yellow could be either. Try and do some spatial analysis on the map. What does it tell you about locals and tourists in Vegas? Does it tell you anything else?
