THE CHALLENGE OF FEEDING 9 Billion People “Continuing population and consumption growth will mean that the global demand for food will increase for at least another 40 years. The effects of climate change are a further threat. But the world can produce more food and can ensure that it is used more efficiently and equitably. A multifaceted and linked global strategy is needed to ensure sustainable and equitable food security.”

INVESTMENT IN AGRIBUSINESS  For many developing countries, agriculture must be the growth-driving engine.  Growth with equity is essential.  75% of a total of 2.2 billion people who live on less than US$2 a day are located in rural areas and mostly depend on agriculture. THIS IS WHY AGRIBUSINESS INVESTMENTS MUST BE FOCUSED ON: Food demand and supply.  The opportunity for small farmer enterprises.  Creating an enabling environment.

GLOBAL ECONOMIC GROWTH The largest portion of the world is geared towards sustained growth in the long term. According to forecasts, the world’s GDP could span from 3% to 4% annual rates by the mid 2020’s.

The economic growth pace is reflected in a per-capita rise in the people’s income level, and therefore, in an increased purchasing capacity of basic food, in addition to a slow but sustained change in consumer habits as a result of the growth of urban communities. This implies a higher consumption of food of a better quality and better processed, a trend that will be sustained over time. “Any increase in the income of developing countries’ populations is basically oriented to food acquisition” (USDA).

WHY INVEST ON AGRIBUSINESS?  A profitable investment.  The price of agricultural raw materials is on the rebound and will be maintained at a high level during the next decade.  It is the ideal time to ensure food supply storage for the future.  It is the best possible moment to diversify the investment portfolio.

WHY IS IT SO?  The world’s population will grow by 40% in the next years.  This demographic swelling growth will lead to an increase in the demand for agricultural products.  The limited acreage will lead to a considerable increase in the demand for agrochemicals and new types of seeds and farming methods.  New market development: there is a growing rise in the demand for quality food and bio-fuels that has already started to create new business opportunities. OPPORTUNITY!

THE PRICE OF AGRICULTURE RAW MATERIALS IS ON THE REBOUND AND WILL CONTINUE TO BE HIGH OVER THE NEXT DECADE.
