GOD PROMISED TO SAVE SINFUL MANKIND

HOW SIN ENTERED THE WORLD

God saw all that he had made, and it was very good.

4 For if God did not spare angels when they sinned, but sent them to hell, putting them into gloomy dungeons to be held for judgment... Then the Lord knows how to hold the unrighteous for the day of judgment, while continuing their punishment.

6 And the angels who did not keep their positions of authority but abandoned their own home--these he has kept in darkness, bound with everlasting chains for judgment on the great Day.

8 … the devil has been sinning from the beginning.

1. Some angelsdisobeyedGod and now live as demonsunder the leadership of thedevil (liar) Satan (enemy). or

15 The LORD God took the man and put him in the Garden of Eden to work it and take care of it. 16 And the LORD God commanded the man, "You are free to eat from any tree in the garden; 17 but you must not eat from the tree of the knowledge of good and evil, for when you eat of it you will surely die."

1 Now the serpent was more crafty than any of the wild animals the LORD God had made. He said to the woman, "Did God really say, 'You must not eat from any tree in the garden'?" 2 The woman said to the serpent, "We may eat fruit from the trees in the garden, 3 but God did say, 'You must not eat fruit from the tree that is in the middle of the garden, and you must not touch it, or you will die.' " 4 "You will not surely die," the serpent said to the woman. 5 "For God knows that when you eat of it your eyes will be opened, and you will be like God, knowing good and evil."

1. Some angelsdisobeyedGod and now live as demonsunder the leadership of thedevil (liar) Satan (enemy). 2. The deviltempted Adam and Eve to disobey God.

6 When the woman saw that the fruit of the tree was good for food and pleasing to the eye, and also desirable for gaining wisdom, she took some and ate it. She also gave some to her husband, who was with her, and he ate it. 7 Then the eyes of both of them were opened, and they realized they were naked; so they sewed fig leaves together and made coverings for themselves

1. Some angelsdisobeyedGod and now live as demonsunder the leadership of thedevil (liar) Satan (enemy). 2. The deviltempted Adam and Eve to disobey God. 3. Adam and Evedeliberately disobeyed God

1 This is the written account of Adam's line. When God created man, he made him in the likeness of God. 2 He created them male and female and blessed them. And when they were created, he called them "man." 3 When Adam had lived 130 years, he had a son in his own likeness, in his own image; and he named him Seth.

Agree or disagree? The devil can never tell the truth.

Evaluate. Frank said, “If the angels were created with superhuman wisdom and power, and if the devil is an angel, then the devil must be very powerful and wise.”

THE RESULTS OF SIN

5 Surely I was sinful at birth, sinful from the time my mother conceived me.

1.We are all born in a sinful condition (original or inherited sin)

19 For out of the heart come evil thoughts, murder, adultery, sexual immorality, theft, false testimony, slander.

1.We are all born in a sinful condition (original or inherited sin) 2. We commit sins against God every day (Actual Sin)

12 Therefore, just as sin entered the world through one man, and death through sin, and in this way death came to all men, because all sinned--

23 For the wages of sin is death,

4For if God did not spare angels when they sinned, but sent them to hell, [a] putting them into gloomy dungeons [b] to be held for judgment;... 9if this is so, then the Lord knows how to rescue godly men from trials and to hold the unrighteous for the day of judgment, while continuing their punishment.ab

1.We are all born in a sinful condition (original or inherited sin) 2. We commit sins against God every day (Actual Sin) 3. We deserve God’s punishment and eternal death

16 To the woman he said, "I will greatly increase your pains in childbearing; with pain you will give birth to children. Your desire will be for your husband, and he will rule over you."

17 To Adam he said, "Because you listened to your wife and ate from the tree about which I commanded you, 'You must not eat of it,' "Cursed is the ground because of you; through painful toil you will eat of it all the days of your life. 18 It will produce thorns and thistles for you, and you will eat the plants of the field. 19 By the sweat of your brow you will eat your food until you return to the ground, since from it you were taken; for dust you are and to dust you will return."

1.We are all born in a sinful condition (original or inherited sin) 2. We commit sins against God every day (Actual Sin) 3. We deserve God’s punishment and eternal death 4. We suffer pain and sadness because of sin

19 The creation waits in eager expectation for the sons of God to be revealed. 20 For the creation was subjected to frustration, not by its own choice, but by the will of the one who subjected it, in hope 21 that the creation itself will be liberated from its bondage to decay and brought into the glorious freedom of the children of God. 22 We know that the whole creation has been groaning as in the pains of childbirth right up to the present time.

1.We are all born in a sinful condition (original or inherited sin) 2. We commit sins against God every day (Actual Sin) 3. We deserve God’s punishment and eternal death 4. We suffer pain and sadness because of sin 5. All of nature lost its perfection with the fall into sin

Which of these items is a reminder to you of the fact that the devil ruined God’s creation by leading Adam and Eve into sin? Why or why not? Thunderstorms and tornadoes The weeds that grow in lawns and gardens Watching the sunset in the evening A bad cold Watching a hard-fought football game

For Sharing – When you think of all the consequences of sin being in the world what is especially troubling to you?

WHAT DID GOD DO FOR SINFUL MANKIND

17 but you must not eat from the tree of the knowledge of good and evil, for when you eat of it you will surely die."

1. He said that sin must bepunishedandpaid for,but

1. He said that sin must bepunishedandpaid for,but that a Savior as Substitute would take the punishment for us

2 "Speak to the entire assembly of Israel and say to them: 'Be holy because I, the LORD your God, am holy.

1. He said that sin must bepunishedandpaid for,but that a Savior as Substitute would take the punishment for us 2. He said thatholinesswas still required for eternal life but

21 God made him [Jesus] who had no sin to be sin for us, so that in him we might become the righteousness of God.

29 The next day John saw Jesus coming toward him and said, "Look, the Lamb of God, who takes away the sin of the world!

Evaluate this statement: God promised to send a Savior for the world rather than to destroy the world and start over again because God couldn’t stand to have Satan laugh at him for destroying what he had created.

Lesson Five Sin entered the world when SATAN tempted Adam and Eve and they disobeyed God. Because of sin we're born sinful (ORIGINAL sin), we commit sins every day (ACTUAL sin), we deserve God's PUNISHMENT and we should suffer and die. God said sin must be PUNISHED, but a Savior would take the PUNISHMENT for us. God said we must be HOLY, but a Savior would be HOLY for us. We call this God's Great EXCHANGE.
