SUBTRACTION Subtraction is basically an action of removing. It is the opposite of addition.

Subtraction Start with 3

Subtraction and end with 2.

Subtraction What happened to 1?

Subtraction

I see. If I understand this …

Subtraction If you start with 4

Subtraction and end with 3

Subtraction You’ll need to take away 1.

Subtraction

But where does the 1 go?

Subtraction Does anyone know?

ZEROS IN SUBTRACTION Zero is called the amazing number. Reason of this ‘amazing’ is that no matter whether the number zero is multiplied, added or subtracted from zero the answer is still zero. And whenever zero is subtracted from any other number the answer is still the number.

7 – o = 7 12 – 0 = 12 142 – 0 = 142 So, when you subtract Zero from a number the difference is that number. 7 – 7 = 0 23 – 23 = 0 145 – 145 = 0 When you subtract a number from itself, the difference is Zero.

SUBTRACTION FACTS It is important you take into account the following concepts: 4597 Minuend - 1829 Subtrahend 2698 Difference

SUBTRACTION FACTS Follow the next steps to solve a subtraction by regrouping: 1. Subtract the ones 4597 -1829 2. Subtract the tens 4597 - 1829
