2 Ghana Ghana Accra There are approximately 25 million people living in Ghana. An estimated 4 million of them in the capital Accra.

3 Background Most families of the lower income bracket are depending on all family members actively helping to provide from when they are little.

4 Background Work opportunities in the cities are very limited. But the dream of a better life in the city attracts many people from the rural areas.

5 Background On average the population density in Accra is 250 people per hectare, while in the slums it is 608 people. There is a lack of drinking water, sanitary facilities, organised waste management and so on.

6 Background Around 60,000 to 90,000 children are living on the streets of Greater Accra. Their sad reality: Slums, hard work, criminality, hunger and misery.

7 Background During the past years, the number of street children has increased significantly.

8 Founding history VISION
1997 First meeting of Amon and Daniela in Ghana. Exchange of ideas and a joint vision. 1999 Official registration as an international NGO. Today Chance for Children is being managed by Daniela, Amon and Awuley. CFC supports up to 45 children within their original families.

13 Dormitories in Hebron Boys‘ home Girls‘ home In our two dormitory buildings there are up to 70 children living between the ages 7 and 18.

14 Professional training
Adolescents, who have successfully completed the obligatory school education either pursue some sort of professional training or higher education. They live in a shared house and are accompanied by CFC in their daily lifes.

15 Workshops Workshops The children and adolescents participate in several different handcraft as well as educational workshops. While learning the production of cards, chains, linen or woodwork, the can discover and improve their manual skills.

16 Ziele 2015 Cooperation We cherish and foster the cooperation with various institutions in Switzerland and in Ghana. (Above: fun day with GIS, below: exchange program with PHZH)

17 News before: after: We are proud of the new CFC Drop-In Centre, which we acquired and renovated in early 2015 in Accra!

18 News On July 2nd we were able to welcome 50 smiling faces to the opening of our new Drop-In Centre.

20 Success stories We analysed the path of 20 of our graduates through a questionnaire. 21 Team By now there are 40 Ghanian women and men as well as two Europeans working in the CFC team CFC is very keen on fair working conditions, fair benefit plans and fair salaries

22 Finanzierung Finances
Chance for Children is being supported by 2900 private persons, church congregations, clubs, schools and companies. In order to ensure a long-term financial plan, the voluntary group “CFC Friends” organises various events in Switzerland as well as in Ghana.

The two founders Amon Kotey and Daniela Rüdisüli Sodjah are leading the project together with Daniel Awuley Nartey. As demanded by Ghanaian authorities, an external accountant is controlling all financial matters.

24 Ziele 2015 Goals 2016 Our main goals for the year 2015 are:
We want to analyse the organisation and decide on meaningful ways of development. We want to ensure that the transition into the new Drop-In Centre is a smooth one. We want to reform the concept for the adolescents and make sure that it is being implemented. We want to have 60 to 66 children in our houses and achieve that the structure we introduced last year works well. We want examine carious way of how to best support the children within their families.
