Legislation Detail The European Community implemented a «plan of energy efficiency» to reduce the energy consuption of some groups of products. The Directive 2005/32/EC on energy consuming products (EuP) and the Directive 2009/125/EC on energy related products (ErP) established the Ecodesign requirements. The Regulations (EC) N. 640/2009 and (EU) N. 4/2014 have implemented the two directives on the Ecodesign requirements for the electrical motors three-phase HZ introduced on the Eurpean Market. These regulations state that starting from the 1st of January 2015, all the motors with a nominal power between 7,5 kW (included) and 375 kW must have an electrical efficiency IE3 (or IE2 + frequency converter). From the 1st January 2017 the same requirements will be applied to the motors with nominal power between 0,75 and 375 kW.
31
Legislation Detail cont…
The Regulation of the European Community N. 547/2012 has implemented the two directives on the Ecodesign requirements for some pump types for clean water, introduced on the European Market. The Regulation establishes that, starting from the 1st of January 2015 the pumps for clean water must have an MEI value equal to 0,4 or higher. This value is the result of a formula that includes the hydraulic efficiency of a pump at the BEP (best efficiency point), at the PL (part load, that is the 75% of the flow at the BEP) and at the OL (over load, that is the 110% of the flow at the BEP). The Lowara e-NSC series are ErP compliant, since they have an MEI higher than 0.4 and a motor with IE3 efficiency.
32
Legislation Detail cont…
The MEI is not the real value of the efficiency, but it just states that the pump is compliant to the EU requirements. The real efficiency value is what stated on the H-Q performance curve, according to the duty point. The MEI is a statistic value, corresponding to the less efficient pumps on the European market. MEI 0.4, for example, represents the 40% of the pumps sold in the EU markets with the lowest efficiency values (bottom 40%). The Directive forces the producers to improve the efficiency values of their pumps if they belong to the bottom 40%.

In hydraulic efficiency
+22% In hydraulic efficiency (up to 13% compared with 2nd in market) -30% Saved energy (per year) +40% Flow more (or same performances with less power) 100% Recyclable packaging The calculation is based on 5HMS05T vs. 4HMS07T at BEP, pumping 5,3m3/ for both pumps, 2000 hours per year running. Absorbed power of e-HM: 1,06 kW, absorbed power old HM: 1,52 kW. New HM saves: 923kW/h per year (3,049 kW/h old HM - 2,126 kW/h new HM). 923 kW/h with the same operating conditions will pump 4,615 m3/h more, so 40% of the 10,600m3/h (total flow pumped in one year running). This could be pushed as « free » flow for the next year. (923 x 5,3 / 1,06) = 4,615 / 10,600 = 40% 5HMS05T vs. 4HMS07T at BEP for same duty point
