SC CTSI Mock Review Program Modelled after similar program at UNC Junior investigators R01, K-series, F-series Outcomes: Increase in grant-writing skills Better scores Increased funding for USC & CHLA researchers Reduced time to submission

How does it work? Applicant submits abstract to Mock Review Program 3-5 months prior to NIH deadline Applicant submits grant paperwork (as complete as possible) to Mock Review Program 4 months prior to NIH deadline Proposal will be assigned to two reviewers, 4 weeks to review Applicants meets with reviewers 3 months prior to NIH deadline Deadline flexibility

Two pilot review panels – very well received Significant changes to proposal NIH Biosketches and letters of support Career development plan Statistical analysis plan Enthusiasm for program Expand to include a broader range of applicants and grants Development of digital infrastructure for support Reciprocal review with SoCal institutions
