Objective Selection Are you Semesterly or Quarterly

Objective Selection If you are on a semester plan. Course Validation, objective selection will occur at the beginning of each semester Semester 1 Using selected classes, following the Strands and Standards Guide, the teacher will create and upload 3 timelapse artifacts at the end of the semester Semester 2 Using selected classes, following the Strands and Standards Guide, the teacher will create and upload 2 timelapse artifacts at the end of the semester

Objective Selection If you are on a yearly plan Course Validation, Objective Selection will occur at the beginning of the year Using the selected classes, following the Strands and Standards Guide, the teacher will create 5 timelapse artifacts at the end of the year.

Using the Strands and Standards Guidance chart 5 objectives must be chosen for the 2015-16 ASW. Failure to follow the chart will result in a rating of Does Not Meet Expected Growth for the entire evidence collection. 15 A.S.W. The teacher’s instruction and evidence must match the objective chosen. Al1 The evidence does not align to the chosen objective. Verb Definitions http://ncasw.ncdpi.wikispaces.net/Teacher+Resources A.S.W. Lessons Learned

Objectives are Student Focused

Lessons Learned Example: Evaluate progress toward achieving health-related fitness standards, using the results to make improvements. Definition -to judge or determine the significance, worth, or quality of; assess: Excel file shows the progress but does not evaluate. The student should evaluate their own progress.

Lessons Learned Example: Differentiate between positive and negative stress management strategies. Definition -to perceive the difference in or between Multiple choice test that defines terms does not align Students should show how the two strategies are different

ASW Process: A Quick Guide

Teacher decisions needed to compile a Timelapse Artifact (TA): a)A specific objective b)Sample type Individual Students or Whole Class c)Collection Method d)Samples from Point 1 and Point 2 e)Context 5 Timelapse Artifacts

The Teacher may choose: Option 1 – Individual Students Work Samples Collect and keep 2 work samples: for each class member for a specific objective at 2 separate points in time OR Sample Type

The Teacher may choose: Option 2 – Whole Class Work Samples 2 work samples that represent the entire class for a specific objective at 2 separate points in time Sample Type

Lessons Learned Choose the sample type that best matches the objective. Examples: K.PCH.1.2 Illustrate proper tooth brushing techniques. Individual Students or Whole Class PE.8.MS.1.4 Use movement combinations in rhythmic activities with an emphasis on keeping to the beat of the music. Individual Students or Whole Class

TA 1 Timelapse Artifact Option 1 – Individual Student Work Samples Online platform will select 3 students The TA will be compiled using the Individual Student Work Samples from these selected students. Student Selection

Timelapse Artifact Option 1 – Individual Student Work Samples If a student work sample is unavailable, that student will be reshuffled and another student will be selected. Student Selection TA 1
