7 How to Plan Objectives for ELs Consider the students English Proficiency Level (1-6) Review the WIDA Can-Do Descriptors for each language domain Consider how the student will demonstrate understanding How will the student be given information to which he will respond? Listening? Reading? How will the student be expected to respond? Speaking? Writing? Do the tasks and objectives meet the linguistic needs of the student? Is the input comprehensible? Is the expected output possible at the student´s proficiency level? What support can be provided to ensure the student can be successful?

8 How to Write Objectives for ELs MPI (Model Performance Indicator) = Objectives 3 Parts Language Function + Content Objective + Support Examples Label the parts of a plant using graphic support and previewed vocabulary. Write a sentence describing each step in the life cycle of a plant, using picture cards. *Blooms Taxonomy is a great tool. However, please remember that students at lower levels of English Proficiency can complete high level cognitive tasks with the appropriate support.
