20 July 28, 2004 PSI Tire Stewardship Initiative 20 Waste Tire Problem Statement A significant number of waste tires are generated in the state each year. Over one-quarter of the annual waste tires generated in the state are disposed of in landfills. Growth in waste tire markets has not kept pace with generation. Tire stockpiles could create fires, environmental threats, and health problems.

22 July 28, 2004 PSI Tire Stewardship Initiative 22 Dialogue Goals Supporting Goals Increase tire life to reduce generation rates. Attain highest value according to options: Reduce Reuse Retread Recycling into other products (incl. civil eng.) Tire-derived fuel Proper disposal Improve collection and recycling practices. Reduce illegal dumping of waste tires.
