5. The United States had wanted to buy the city of New Orleans for a long time so they had negotiators in Paris, France

6. When Napoleon learned that America wanted to buy New Orleans for $ 5 million he offered the whole Louisiana territory for $ 15 million

39. Texas was a state in Northern Mexico. Many Americans moved to Texas to get free land

40. Mexicans were mad at the Americans because they brought their slaves to Texas and didn’t follow the Catholic religion

41. The Mexican president Antonio Lopez de Santa Anna sent soldiers to Texas to make the Americans obey Mexican laws

42. In 1836 180 American soldiers fought the Mexican army at a place called the Alamo in San Antonio, Texas. All the Americans were killed

43. After the Alamo, the Americans fought the Mexican general Santa Anna again. As they fought the Americans cried, “remember the Alamo” This time the Americans won and said that Texas was an independent country.
