4 How it Relates to the Readings The video encourages students to read their lines in a repetitive manner in preparation for the actual play; however, there are additional underlying benefits of reading the lines of the play over and over again. This rereading and group reading enhances these key things: comprehension, fluency, speed, accuracy, expression and word recognition skills.

5 How it Relates to the Readings (cont.) It encourages creativity and expression, while improving oral reading skills and helps students learn how to ‘actively listen’. Many students will view this video and understand the importance of expression and voice control when participating in Reader’s Theater. This will not only help them during Reader’s Theater, but it will also spill over into other facets of their reading in various subjects.
