2 NARROW INFERENCE QUESTIONS Inference Questions require you to draw conclusions that are not stated by the author. Inference questions often use the words: conclude, infer, suggest, or imply. Common phrases that indicate inference: The passage suggests…. Xxxxx implies….. Xxxx comments imply…. Xxxx most directly supports the conclusion that…. Xxxx would likely argue that…. It can be inferred that….

3 STRATEGY FOR NARROW INFERENCE *Find and re-read the part of the passage that relates to the question *Ground yourself in the details *Predict and Eliminate answer choices

4 WRITER’S VIEW QUESTIONS Writer’s view questions ask you to consider some aspect of the passage from the authors perspective. They can be worded in many ways which can make them harder to recognize. However, they all make a reference to what the author was thinking or feeling as she wrote- her opinion or point of view. *The passage is written from the point of view of: *Which of the following best describes the author’s approach to presenting…. *The metaphor about swimming seems to suggest the narrator’s disappointment with….

5 STRATEGY FOR WRITER’S VIEW *Review your summary statements. *Analyze the Author’s approach toward characters or topics mentioned in the question stem. *Find the answer choice that is consistent with the author’s approach. *Use predict and eliminate with the answer choices.
