1 Crucible Exam Intro to the Persuasive Essay Today, in English… HW: Persuasive Essay Brainstorming

2 Convincing somebody that a person is guilty takes persuasive skills! It happens ALL the time in Crucible… but proving someone’s innocence takes persuasive mastery.  Pick 1 of the accused characters from Crucible. In a short paragraph, prove he/she is innocent of witchery & should NOT be hanged to death. (Hint: Think about what they have done/not done, kind of a person they are, who did the accusing, etc.) Day 14 – 10/21 Power-Up!

3 The theme of “right versus wrong” is often developed by challenging to the audience/reader to evaluate the guilt or innocence of one of the characters.  Challenge: Select a character from The Crucible and take a position on his/her guilt or innocence. Use reasons and specific examples to support your opinion. 1 ST QUARTER PORTFOLIO PROJECT: CONQUERING THE PERSUASIVE ESSAY

4 PART I: STARTING AFTER TEST Part I:  Choose your character and take a position on his or her guilt or innocence.  Create a thesis statement.  Brainstorm and outline the persuasive essay. Submit Outline for review in class. Date: 10/27

5 Record all answers on your assessment record. You may write on the exam form. Essay portion eliminated. When you finish, place both sheets in 2 stacks on the front table, return to your seat, and begin brainstorming for essay. THE CRUCIBLE FINAL EXAM
