A biologist: Poses and answers questions about the natural world. Studies the interactions of living things and the environment. Studies organisms from a cell to the biosphere.
3
Polio vaccinations: Pakistan Other concerns of biologists: Pollution Disease prevention and cures Improving our food supply Children with polio
4
What are the characteristics of living things?
5
Living things are all made from cells. Cells can form tissues. Tissues build organs. Groups of organs build organ systems. All together organism.
6
Living things respond to their external and internal environments. Light changes Hunger Pain Threat Survival
7
Organisms have regulatory systems that keep their ‘insides’ from changing. Ex: sweating Shivering Wilting (plants) Feliz Sudor
8
Living things all use energy to carry out their life processes. Plants get energy from ? Herbivores? Carnivores? Omnivores?
9
Life increases in size Growth happens when cells divide Development is change as the organism matures.
10
Since all things die, reproduction carries life into the next generation. DNA carries genetic information from one generation to the next.
