Lesson #2 Plant Parts Blooms Taxonomy Remembering - can the student recall or remember the information Analyzing - can the student distinguish between the different parts Gardner’s Multiple Intelligences Visual – Spatial – Think in terms of physical space Interpersonal – Understanding Interacting with others

Lesson #2 Plant Parts Behavioral Objectives  To locate parts of a plant.  To be able to describe the functions of plant parts

Lesson #2 Plant Parts Procedures  Children will have a group discussion about plants, what they look like, what they need to grow etc…  Teacher will chart on a graphic organizer important information as it it mentioned.  Students will form groups and use work sheets to label plant parts and functions.  Follow up activity will be a scavenger Hunt

Lesson #2 Plant Parts Scavenger Hunt For a follow up activity, students will be asked to complete a scavenger hunt using web sites. Sites: www.superteacherworksheets.com/science/pl ant www.isssk12.nc.us/tech/bcrouch/plants.html www.worldbookonline.com/advanced www.worlbookonline.com/kids/article www.scavengerhuntsforkids.com/planthunt.ht ml

Lesson #2 Plant Parts Scavenger Hunt Questions 1. What are some plants that are not helpful to people? 2. What plant part makes the most of the food the plant needs to live? 3. What substance in the leaves of a plant soaks up light during photosynthesis? 4. What is a root? 5. What are three parts of a seed? 6. What are three functions of a root? 7. What does a plant need? 8. What do leaves do? 9. How do plants make food? 10. What is the function of each part of a leaf?

Lesson #4 Plant Growth and Reproduction How does a plant grow Gardner’s Multiple Intelligence Interpersonal – Understanding, interacting with others Linguistic – Using words effectively Visual – Think in terms of physical space Bloom’s Taxonomy Remembering- Can the student recall or remember the information Understanding – Can the student explain ideas or concepts Applying – Can the student use the information in a new way

Lesson #4 Plant Growth and Reproduction How does a plant grow Behavioral Objectives  To work collaboratively to gain knowledge  To be able to express themselves clearly in words  To create what they have learned in art

Lesson #4 Plant Growth and Reproduction How does a plant grow Procedures  Students will be put into 3 reading groups, the groups will be asked to read a book on plants.  The groups will prepare a chart with an important fact about a plant.  Groups will share chart with class  View a video on the the smart board about plant life cycle  Students will be asked to create a picture of a part of plant cycle and describe.  Have children share creations.

Lesson #5 Animal Characteristics What are some animal characteristics Bloom’s Taxonomy  Remembering – Can the student remember the information.  Applying - Can the student use the information in a different way. Gardner’s Multiple Intelligence Visual – Spatial – Think in terms of physical space

Lesson #5 Animal Characteristics What are some animal characteristics Behavioral Objectives  Students will be able to search the internet for important information they can use.  Students will create their own original animal and explain why it has these characteristics  Students will be able to create a simple power point presentation to class to present to the class.

Lesson #5 Animal Characteristics What are some animal characteristics Procedures  Using the smart board the students take an electronic book walk, to introduce them to different animals and their many characteristics, and why they have them.  Students use site to list animals and characteristics  Students make power point presentation to create a new animal with any characteristics they would like. They must be able to explain why the animal needs this characteristic.  Present power point to class.

Student Power Point My animal’s eyes are on the sides of his head, because he is prey. My animal has a long tail because he hangs from the trees. My animal has fur because he lives in a cold place. My animal has big eyes to help him see.
