3 Rural Development Programme 2014-2020 Financed by the European Agricultural Fund for Rural Development Total payment for the period: EUR 3,4553 billion, supporting mainly  asset purchases  food and energy development Best practice: The importance of social reconciliation in the planning process

4 Hungarian National Rural Network Mission: To organize a network of all stakeholders interested in rural development -governmental -local government and civil contributors -business and social organizations etc. Helping the countryside to develope; announcing special programmes on different, related topics in cooperation with partners Example: „The House of My Grandfather Program” –> introducing the younger generation to the traditional architectural craftsmanship-> saving traditional, rural values

6 Preservation of natural and cultural heritage in rural areas Various impacts on local society  strenghtens identity  improves the quality of life -important role in the 2007-2013 Rural Development Programme -in the 2014-2020 period as well, but combined with other aspects (e.g. energy renewals when talking about buildings) Example: „Closed gardens”

7 Special phrase, referring to private gardens, usually located at the border of settlements Grape and fuit bearing, small plot of lands Problem: -split properties -neglected, unsettled -need to be revitalized Solution: National program that supports local goverments to utilize and revitalize these areas, while saving their traditional values

9 Job creation in rural areas through the diversification of activities Goals: – Value-added production – Knowledge economy Outcomes: – Higher employment rates – Sustainement of working culture – Food sufficiency – Additional revenues Practical and theoretical trainings Continuous consultation Craft workshops, homemade products

10 „Grab(b)-it!” - small livestock breeding working program Traditions: -Breeding for export – the third largest exporter in Europe -96-97% for export -The consumption of rabbit meat is extremely low -Own breeding rabbit meat consumption is higher -Social reasons -For disadvantaged, impoverished regions - For families living in difficult conditions - Job creation in rural areas - 5 female rabbits and 1 male for a family - Theorethical and practical trainings - Diversification of activities - To strenghten the village cumminities - Maintaining of rural populations

11 „Grab(b)-it!” - small livestock breeding working program Results can be: -Good option for the prototype canteen program, or for the public work program -To boost the revival of rabbit breeding traditions -Self-sufficiency -An increase in the rabbit-meat consumption -Popularisation of the rabbit-gastronomy and healthy diet -Resolution for the problems of livelihood -Part, or full time jobs for families in disadvantaged situation In 2011 – 235 municipalities and 4282 families applied 45% from Baranya, Borsod-Abaúj-Zemplén, Szabolcs-Szatmár-Bereg counties – the highest unemployment rate

13 Leader program -EU’s rural development policy – 5% of the funds -Community initiative – projects are managed by local action groups – EU funding for civil organisations, local operators through integrated istrategies – Partnership between the neighbouring communities -Leader’s aim is to prevent impoverishment and the exclusion of disadvantaged regions -For areas with 10,000 - 100,000 inhabitants

14 Bükk-Mak - Electrical power production -44 communities – Highest unemployment rates – Aim: „welfare zone” -94.363 habitants -”1 village – 1 MW” integration – renewable energies and energy efficiency – Wood waste boiler – Solar collectors – Vegetable oil mini power plant – Wind generator – Solar power plant – Biogas -For public institutions such as – Schools, nursery schools, municipal Buildings

15 Bükk-Mak - Leader program -Results: – Economy is flourishing - tourism – The livelihood of gipsy comminuties is better – The local waste management has completly changed thanks to the biogas power plant – Energy production and connection to the national grid – New jobs – Demonstrations and education concerning the pure energies – Electric Charging Stations for cars – The number of small and medium-sized enterprises is augmented

18 Oszkó -653 habitants – mainly the elderly – BUT the younger generation is going back! -Civil participation in the strategy planning -Diversification of possiblities -Complex programs to lure back some youngs families, couples -„Fairy garden” movement -Youth and Employment Information Point -„Filled house” renovations -Clever hands - craft occupations playhouse -Hegyháti vineyards - renewable energy supply -Reanimation of weaving and spinning straw tradition -Tourism supply development - wine cellars, Forest School -Energy efficiency project for public institutions -Popularisation of traditional architecture
